New to the square body group!

Yep, that's what mine is, except GMC grill.

New to the square body group!

Welcome! It's unfortunate that a previous owner must not have liked the 1980 Specific headlight bezels and trim and swapped it out. It's pretty common, but always makes me a bit sad when people go from a one-year only unique trim to the generic pre-78 roundeye trim(80 could be round or square...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

The bearings aren't bad unless they are visibly damaged(scars, nicks, chunks missing, huge scratches, etc..), they are literally falling apart, or they make a crunching type feeling when you spin them. If none of that is present, then they just need to be repacked and adjusted. You shouldn't...

AC Not Blowing Out Top Vents

Does it switch at all? If there is no vacuum going to the system, it will default to a weird split between defrost and floor. I would check and make sure the vacuum line from the engine to the accumulator is present and in good condition. Then make sure the hard line that connects underneath the...

    Question about headers

Yep, chevelle headers will keep it tucked up and clears even the manual trans stuff. Use remflex gaskets and they won't leak.

Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?

I'm 6'3" and about 260lbs. The bench has just enough room to be comfortable for me, but I have pulled the saddle tanks and have an EFI Blazer tank installed for the engine swap. I'm flattening the floors to install 99-06 Silverado 40/20/40 bucket seats at some point. I have the seats ready to go...

    Torque Value Calculation, JD 310D

I agree. That's how I would read that... but it definitely isn't standard terminology. That torque range seems about right for tempered steel 3/4-10 ASTM A490 bolts, so that's what I would do. You're gonna need a heck of a 3/4" torque wrench to get there...

Any muscle car fans out there

Very nice! I have a 67 Riviera with a '70 Riviera 455 in it. Mine is definitely more on the roadkill side of things though.

What have you done to your square lately??

I have an Innovate LC-2 and have it wired to a cheap gauge for now in the square. Longterm idea is to have it wired to the pro+ harness for my HPtuners MPVI3 dongle. I have it on a 5-wire connector so I can move it around between the different vehicles.

Taking off passenger head about 37 bolts so far

I mean... there are MANY youtube videos out there with step-by-step instructions on all of this. Its hard for anyone to give you an off-the-cuff written direction on how to do this. You could have also gotten the true step-by-step directions from the factory service manuals... also available for...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Repacking and adjusting taper wheel bearings is a standard service item. We did it based on mileage or time interval(whichever came first) on the military equipment that used them. The service manual for your squarebody almost assuredly has the same directions to service them every year or...

Taking off passenger head about 37 bolts so far

uhhh... no. Those bolts are needed to align the transmission and keep it from twisting while driving. It isn't redundant or "just a shield". There's a big difference between a 10hp engine moving a 200lb mower and a 200hp engine moving a 5400lb truck around. All it's gonna take is one hard shift...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Just use a rental one. As others have said, you are only trying to get them fully seated and it doesn't need to be precise. You need to tighten it while spinning the hub in the opposite direction. Generally it will be something like "Tighten to 50 ft-lbs, then back off 1/2 turn, then tighten to...

2004 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 rattle noise from behind dash on driver's side.

I had some snapped on my 2011 Suburban 5.3L when I needed to get the exhaust manifold off to replace it after the studs got destroyed on the outlet. I replaced them with ICT Billet bolts and torqued them to spec and haven't had a single issue with them since. Got them on amazon for the same...

    Transmission paint

well... you'll still need to get it clean in order to paint it, otherwise nothing is going to stick anyways.

    Transmission paint

One should be enough.. especially if you are doing silver. I tend to only do that if I'm rebuilding and even then I usually dont paint them. It just reduces the amount of heat transfer you are going to get. I usually use engine degreaser and a pressure washer to get the big stuff off before...

    Bad Master Cylinder?

What is that supposed to be showing? Make sure you have the reservoir full, then make sure you are getting fluid flowing out of the rear bleeder before you start pumping the air out. You might have so much air in it that you are sucking it back into the master by pumping it with the lines empty...

    Saddle tank delete with carburation

Hope so, I’ve been working on it slowly but surely and now it’s been sitting completed in the garage for about a year now waiting to go in, but something always ends up taking priority. Really hoping to do it this month. Engine/trans and wiring harness came from a 97 K2500 Suburban.

What have you done to your square lately??

Well, got it going again. Went over to the Parking lot where it died and disconnected the fuel line to the carb and stuck the end in a plastic bottle. Cranked it for a few rotations and got plenty of fuel flowing…. Pulled out a spare ignition module from a spare HEI I had(it had 5/01 written on...

A brand new ACDelco one is only $38 with free overnight delivery if you have prime. If your buddies old one ends up being no good, I'd just order a new one in. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QGQRD2/
