Dash and steering wheel are usually darker colors so they don't reflect into the windshield. K

    Step Side Bed Wiring

Akkshully - I went one step farther on my 80' stepper. I had grounding issues which prevented the brake lights and turn signals from working properly. The original ground is via star washers which breaks the paint between the taillamp bracket and box, and again between the taillamp attaching...

    Loose steering,is this normal

They wander around a little bit. Make sure your gear is adjusted. Should be 12 in lb preload, and 20 in lbs overcenter. The procedure is shown in the Unit Repair Manual. Make sure the ball joints are good and not sticky. That can result in dartiness. Run as much caster as you can tolerate...

    A833 transmission

I drove my A833 equipped square daily for 30 years. Commuting, trailering and light hauling. It would have been nice to have a little steeper first gear. K

    Body to frame webbing??

Not factory. Body sat on the body mounts; bed sat directly on the frame rails. K

    What are these for?

Nothing. The are little reinforcements for the fender attachment. K

    Show your sick toy !!!

Forgive me this indulgence: This guy in the Mopar ran pretty good - he went 10.59 but he was late late on the tree so I got there first by over a second. I bet he was surprised. Then I started to notice a theme..... ;)

    Show your sick toy !!!

New personal best: 9.56 @ 139 mph, in the cool fall air. I've been running a 10 flat index for these past several years so I didn't really know what it would run all out. I was hoping 9.60's maybe? It went 9.63 off the trailer. It launched so hard I forgot to push the throttle the rest of...

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

..... I've got the original Chevelle steel bumper mounted to a shelf. I'm going to put some parking lights in it and wire them so they light up. ;)

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

We moved in May of this year and so I am slowing putting my shop together. This is the first time in the last couple moves that I have the wall space to hang some automobilia. K

    Square-body?

Second story: There are some "architectural" things we did, too, that you might not notice. These were required to even give us a shot at getting in the game. The '96 and beyond GMT400 models had the round (Donaldson) element air cleaner on top of the fender, with the battery in the RF corner...

    Square-body?

Thank you for that. A couple stories of how the system came to be: The system was capacitized for the "big engines" of the day: the L18 8.1L large block and the 6.2L diesel. Flow restriction specification (from GM Powertrain) was a ridiculous 1" Hg restriction at "max flow", from the ambient...

    Square-body?

So - I was thinking about this further - One of this things I've been accused of is claiming to be "everywhere" "all at once" back in the day. Obviously that's not the case, but I thought capturing a summary somewhere of all the stuff I worked on might be appropriate. Here goes: C/K: Vehicle...

C20 - Trailering vs. Camper Special

This is a little hard to read (but I had it handy) and it is for an '85, but would indicate GCWR = 15,500 lbs. K

    Square-body?

We never called 'em that. They were C/Ks, then GMT400, then GMT800, then GMT900, then K2 and then T1. Then I retired. K

C20 - Trailering vs. Camper Special

Just to add a little color to the commentary: I used to do the trailer ratings between 1986 and 1990, during my time at the GM Milford Proving Ground (Milford Mi). We would verify the ratings during public highway test trips, like Powertrain Cooling trips to Davis Dam and Death Valley, brake...

    81-87 bed bolt location diagram

You could also look at your frame to see if there are any "sleeves" remaining. Any location that got a long bolt had a metal pipe between the upper flange and the lower flange of the side rail, so that the attachment could compress and hit torque. K

    81-87 bed bolt location diagram

Unless you are absolutely fanatical about duplicating the factory build it kinda doesn't matter. You could use all short bolts. The only reason they mixed and matched in the factory was to give easy access around the fuel tank or crossmember clamshell brackets to the guy in the pit tightening...

Gold color for 84 silverado paint

Yes. Even if it is faded with a little imagination we might be able to recreate what it says. Also - for your truck - you could contact the GM Heritage Center and send them your VIN; they would return a copy of the original invoice which would contain build content, build timing, pricing and...
