    ‘84 C20 454 in Nevada

I remember those being somewhat popular, back in the day. I think we had some in the parts store then.... Dad wouldn't use them because he didn't want to drill extra holes in the truck, and make more starting points for rust. His '75 had the factory bed rails and he built cedar bed rails from...

Chevy Replacement Grill with 350 emblem option

I'm thinking it was '77 or '78 when the engine emblem stopped. I know our '79 Burb didn't have one, but I think the '75 and '77 GMC Burbs did. The '78 Sierra shop truck may have had one, but it only had the stock grille in it for a few months ( when we first had it). Still had come out with...

    '85 C30 - Reg.Cab - 8" Bed - 2WD

If it's a stepside long bed, those are kinda uncommon...but I think there's a little room between "uncommon" and "rare".

Chevy Replacement Grill with 350 emblem option

Yep Dad's 75 GMC Sierra Classic had the "350" emblem in the grille; red in the numbers IIRC. He might've painted them Willoway Green.....

    Blower fan/relay

On a square body truck, since the blower motor is under the hood, you could use a long jumper wire and go straight to the battery. That's what Dad did, back in the day. On my OBS trucks it's under the dashboard, so I have to take it out and use jumper wires to check it. Still 5 screws and a...

    69 GMC C-15

For that kinda cabbage, do you get the embossed scrollwork parts for the middle? Cause that's part of what makes those era seats cool and distinctive.

What have you done to your square lately??

And the corrolary to that, is, "I'm fixing this one thing" but you find several other things that need fixing too.... I had an oil change and a belt tensioner, turn into a water pump, timing job, including new cover, oil pan removal and gasket, hoses, and prolly a couple other things I forgot...

What’s IT Worth? (Post all “what’s it worth threads here)

Yup, same with the OBS trucks. Shortbeds are for hot rodding; real trucks that earn their keep have 8' beds!

    Water pump questions

The square body shroud is stapled together. Dad modified the ones on our Burbs with 1/4"-20 bolts, washers and nuts, 3 per side. This way, you can take the top half off, and access the fan and water pump much more easily. But you will have to drill the appropriate sized holes for whatever bolts...

350 vortec 5.7 lower intake leaking vacuum?? Help please

I have had great luck with the United Motor Products blue vented cap and rotor, both with brass contacts, on both my Vortec 350/5.7 trucks. I grew up watching Dad use Blue Streak caps and rotors on our vehicles. He was a big Delco Remy user, but we sold both brands at our parts store. The...

    Shift Indicator

As far as I know, that is not replaceable, except to replace the gauge cluster housing. Watch out on used ones as 40-50 year old plastic is quite fragile. These are prone to breaking, and also exercise care with the mounting tabs on the housing.

What have you done to your square lately??

Good question, I will have to ask on the 400 group. I personally like the extra range that tank gives, versus the newer SUVs that have the spare downstairs. I've personally had more trouble getting the spares down on the vehicles that had that mounting, than buying the extra gas..... As long as...

What have you done to your square lately??

Electric fuel pumps never die on a low or empty tank....the in tank unit on my OBS Burb quit when I had just filled it up. That's 42 gallons of gas to go somewhere else. Only had enough buckets to get 25 gallons out; that sumbitch was heavy enough it took two people and two floor jacks to move...

Brake upgrade using GM parts bin...

Interesting that in the square body era, JB 6 is the 2500/3500 8 lug trucks. Cause on the GMT 400/OBS it's the big 5 lug or 6 lug brakes, 11 5/32" drums, #473 shoes. That's what Suburbans came with, and some Tahoes and Yukons got if they were ordered that way. Then the 3500s like my crew cab...

    How about a NEW squarebody?

It depends on the drive thru. The Whataburger across the highway from us, my crew cab fits in fine. I've seen duallies and work body trucks in that drive thru. There are several others in the area (near the Astrodome/NRG stadium complex so there are many restaurants in a 5 mile radius) that are...

What have you done to your square lately??

Dad redid the headliner in our '79 and '84 Burbs, with some thin, moldable carpet he found in rolls at Walmart. IIRC (it's been awhile) they were about 2' wide, maybe 2 1/2' wide, so we gathered up some extra divider bars and cleaned them up, repainted to match the carpet. I think the finished...

Almost met Jesus this AM due to a faulty thermostat!

Yup hydro boost failure is not fun at all!!!! Had this happen twice on my crew cab. First time, the unit failed and blew its seals, second time the idler pulley froze up and took the belt out. We live on a major highway in Houston, near a major freeway intersection, and were coming out the RV...

    tow rating - '90 2500 Suburban

Here in Houston there is not much need for 4wd unless you are working in muddy environments. I've been through semi high water in my trucks, most of the time they get through it just fine. Our '81 GMC Sierra shop truck got caught in street flooding when Dad was coming back from the downtown...

    FNG! New year new Forum.

Welcome to the forum, from Houston, Texas. I agree with the other guys on here that this is a good place to go for square body truck information and assistance. And pictures are definitely worth over 1000 words! If you're on here frequently, check out and comment on any threads that interest...

    tow rating - '90 2500 Suburban

I guess it's the weight of the 4x4 components, decreasing the gcwr? I noticed that too. The most we ever towed with our '90 burb was a u haul car trailer, with 3 different vehicles on it. An '81 GMC Sierra longbed C10, a Buick LeSabre Estate Wagon, and a '77 C25 GMC burb with full floater, 454...

    tow rating - '90 2500 Suburban

The '90 R2500 GMC Burb we had, was originally bought from Frank Hillman Pontiac GMC in Corpus Christi, Texas. Had a 5.7, TH400, 4.10 semi floating axle. Was the deluxe two tone, Summit White with Smoke Blue(light metallic blue, about the shade Pontiac used to paint their engines) on the side...
