Breaks come on hard when coming to stop sign

So you barely step on the pedal and it locks up? Mine did this the day I got it - the front flex lines were shot and totally collapsing.

What are your favorite/ best looking valve covers for SBC?

I always liked the black covers with the red bowtie/Chevrolet on them, but were too much $ IMO. So got these because they matched the FI intake. Making my own hold downs as the ones that came with them look cheap.

400 SBC Build - Tight Budget

To fit there my guess is 2-1/16" (aka 52mm). Several companies make them. VDO imo is the best of the bunch. I used them ALOT in older 4N restos.

Oil Canning in Driver Door at Handle

This is my roof after the oil canning. I found the center of the stretches in 3 large sections - started on the right section. 75-100 random spots with a stud welder and a cold wet rag. By the time I finished the right and middle areas, the left side was taunt again and fine. The sheet metal is...

    Reman IR 5HP Compressor Motor

The compressor I have (for keeps) has a Century Magnatek motor on it - made in TN. The governor and switch on the armature was broken (looked like it was made of bakelite) but the local electric motor repair place said they were still available and still made in Bedford OH. Nice. I had new US...

    Reman IR 5HP Compressor Motor

Yeah....it is what it is. I have a new military heater for cheap also that may be going with it as well. They're real popular with the deer camp guys, but no interest there anymore either.

Oil Canning in Driver Door at Handle

It will be gone when the door is soda blasted.

Oil Canning in Driver Door at Handle

TBH......that plate I used is probably twice the door skin thickness and original rigidity by itself. It is rock solid.

Oil Canning in Driver Door at Handle

Mine was exactly like this when I got it. I tried the heat/cold stunt and it sort of worked....but where it was stretched was right where you'd always be pushing or pulling it. So I added a thin patch plate from a hardware store - with 3M panel adhesive. Worked like a gem and is rock solid now...

    Train wreck

Does the sunroof assy unbolt and come out as a whole unit? I've had models that were welded in - others that just unbolted.

    Can someone identify this part?

More I thought about it....if yours is a 4WD - its probably off the transfer case.

    Can someone identify this part?

I think thats a breather. There's one on the trans and another on the rear axle/diff also. At one time I posted the PN for it - can get them in bags of 5 from Rock.

Anyone used the old ash tray for something (else) that's interesting?

My EFI has a tablet for tuning....might have to mod the ashtray to make it a tad wider to fit.....but thats the plan ATM.

Anyone here ever (fully) rebuild an air compressor pump?

    Nevermind......figured it out. :hat: THX

    O'Reilly sux balls !!!

That belt was probably $150 at napa. I dont even consider them anymore. I bought a ball joint off RA for $13 shipped. They quoted me $89 + tax - same PN and brand. AZ and OR are becoming HF's to me. Everything in the store is junk. Most of the small shops around here (even the Ferd dealer) has...

    Reman IR 5HP Compressor Motor

Shaft is 5/8. Arbor to the pulley that was with it (which I also still have) is 1-9/16. Height looks to be about 3-1/2.

    Reman IR 5HP Compressor Motor

I bought a Rand4000 60 gal compressor at an estate sale last May. Guy was a serious pro-wood worker and had more than one of these in his shop. Motor was missing but there were a couple boxes that came with it. One box had new-like pulleys and the other was a new reman 5HP motor. I intended on...

What new tools have you got lately?

From what I was told by a local electric motor repair shop - what failed was the IR motors and the pressure switches - both chi-com. Wasn't so much junk material as much as a poor design. Guys would buy new US Baldor motors and they would fail within a year because of some proprietary design...

What new tools have you got lately?

The ones TSC sells must be a seconds thing as they are about half what everyone else sells them for. The reviews are either 5 or 1 stars. 5's are guys hysterical with the purtee tank - 1's are all the same: motors lasted 2 months, 30 hrs, etc before failing. Whats better is that IR has very few...

What new tools have you got lately?

After looking forever, I got a steal of a deal on this. Good friend helped me pick it up - its a beast. Great seller - even threw in a like new retractable reel and extra hose.....all made in the USA. Compressor is 20 yrs old - a little wax and clean up and its like new. Only thing it needs is a...

    Wipers barley working

Might not be an electrical issue at all. 40yr old grease and loose magnets are more likely culprits to me. Look down a few pics in this thread to see what goes on behind closed doors. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/85-91-wiper-motor-rebuild.36321/
