New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

Starting procedure is. 1) turn key on, 2) push glow plug button for the appropriate amount of time determined by you, 3) and start. While this took more then a day, I believe this is the least invasive, neatest, easiest method using as much of the existing wiring as possible. While I was at it...

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

I mounted the solenoid here as there was already a bolt there, just bolted it down. Remove the two bolts holding the original glow plug controller, (unhook battery terminals first from both pos side of the batt, and neg of main battery.) Remove all wires from controller and set the controller...

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

The keyed power from the fuse box is attached to the other switch terminal. I routed the wires over the brake assembly to keep the wires out of sight, and for protection. checked the switch for power B-4 proceeding to the engine compartment.

Spark plug gap closed fresh rebuild

Sounds to me like the head was milled to much, or like everyone’s saying, something in the cylinder. Timing would not bend a spark plug unless timing was so far advanced that that motor was detonating and the detonating bent it. I did it on my 345 IH dump truck.

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

Worked all day on the manually operated glow plug switch. The dash was full of air conditioning tubes. Lots of head scratching, finally settled on the Johnny Armstrong method. No parts or persons injured. I will do a pictorial tomorrow. Also changed the oil and filter, have the rearing gasket...

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

Well that didn’t work. Didn’t leave me stranded, but had to cool down then started. Soooo got a solenoid will wire it in with a starter button to manually toggel the glow plugs. I hope to install tomorrow. Got more parts, mostly oil maintenance, engine oil and filter, done today, got the rear...

    Cowl Induction or stock?

Cowl induction hoods that actual draw air from a high pressure can be useful and may good for a few ponies. Having said that have a motor to back it up. I like stock with plenty of motor, my preference sure, but there are lots of hot doggers here.

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

I believe this is the culprit glow plug inhibit switch, pass side behind the glow plug. I did not pull to check, just made a jumper wire to connect both sides together. See pic 2. Drove the truck today, and no problems. Also both fuel gages are working, what a blessing!! I need to fix the window...

Original Overlander, 1955 Chevy 3800 Van

In 1972, My childhood friend Leon went to Anchorage to work and bought this truck from a logging company. They had used it to carry chainsaws, and a place to get out of the cold. There was a small wood stove, and some chairs inside. Leon subsequently sold this to his brother Leroy, and he...

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

I found the problem: A glow plug inhibit switch mounted in the passenger side cylinder head at the rear of the engine disables the glow plug controller if the engine coolant temperature is greater than 125 °F. This switch/sensor is a common failure point and is often disabled by owners as the...

Gm 12 bolt gear pattern help. ?

that is eighty thousands, I think you meant .008 or eight thousands. If it is the latter, that is probably good, slightly tight, but I have set them tighter without problems. Also I mark my ring gear is three equal places, and check each one, because it is possible that it is loose/tight at...

What locker shall I go for?

Andreas, welcome from farmer to another. My 1973 K20 needed a posi, I chose a Yukon Lunchbox locker for my rear 14 FF, and a Spicer for the Dana 44 in front. I drove the truck several years this way, and love the rear locker, very positive, and seems indestructible behind my modified 454. It...

    Ferd for my Granddaughter

Also has those cool steps, I would almost kill for, but Charlie will like them. Also has true dual exhaust with long tube headers, and nice E-Brock old school valve covers. Soon as we get the carb, the engine is waterproof, then I will Gunk it and wash it down. Want to take off the Valve covers...
