    POR 15 Hi Temp coating....Fail!

Cerakote brand coatings seem to hold up pretty well. The stuff is a little costly but a little bit goes a long ways. I bought a 16oz. Bottle of glacier silver (C-7700) to do my exhaust with and only ended up using about 4oz. So far. Hardest part is prep work, everything needs to be thoroughly...

    Gas gauge

Check the grounds first, there should be a sending unit wire grounded to the frame rail near each tank. Inspect them & make sure they're clean and bolted down on a clean rust and paint free spot on the frame. The grounds are hooked to the sending unit with a plain uninsulated spade connector...

Trying to get fuel to my engine, a novice's saga...

I'd put my money on the tank switch solenoid being the culprit... Mine was going bad slowly for years, it was pulling fuel from both tanks the selected tank would produce most of the gas but the other tank would slowly go down too. If either tank got ran dry the fuel lines would lose their...

    Carrier swapping

What gear ratio do you plan on running and what type of driving do you intend to do with those 38" Boggers?" Honestly Sir, unless it's gonna be a street truck the 1/2 ton axle set wont live long on 38" boggers, small pinion shafts, smaller diameter ring gear, smaller axle shafts, weak stub...

    Removing Door Mirror Anchors

Yeah…. I’m pretty sure those are rivnuts. There’s a decent tool on amazon for replacing them but to get them out they would need to be drilled or ground off. The simple tool is a bolt with an oversized washer basically but the rivet gun type tools do such a nice job with way less work...

    engine bay wiring- routing

IIRC The harness Y's near the distributer for the coil, choke, alternator exciter, alternator charge, and A/C wires and runs up the passenger side intake manifold/valve cover. Starter solenoid wire (purple), and two positive leads (red) with fusable links run behind the passenger head near the...

How should I solve this starter problem

Love those little starters! Starter for a GMT400 truck…. They’re technically not for our squarebodies but came from a SBC so they bolt right up.

    Ls swap or not?

IDK man... The L31 swap can get involved or expensive too, the crossover to EFI with in tank pumps, fuel return lines, custom harnesses and PCM re-flashing is more difficult than most of the physical stuff like motor mounts. I did the L31/4L60E swap because my dad had flipped a bunch of GMT400...

    Tail Gate Latch ideas?

    1) Linear actuator or solenoid hooked to a "pop" button. 2) Make one of the tail lights swing out on a hinge and put a manual latch in there. 3) Find a way to unlatch it through the stake pocket hole. 4) Make custom hinges at the top of the tailgate so it swings up instead of down, latches...

New to me truck/ what should i go through and look at

There's probably lots of videos on it, I learned when I was a kid so I've never looked to see what's out there for instructional material. Its a messy job and kinda a PIA but not too complicated if you have any mechanical aptitude. Only special tools I can think of would be a GM spindle nut...

New to me truck/ what should i go through and look at

Check all fluids of course, including trans and transfer case plus both differentials. Check steering parts, look for worn tie rod ends Etc. Check Frame near steering box bolts - commonly cracked on 4x4 and more so if it’s lifted with oversized tires Check frame at rear shock mount holes -...

    Paint Stripper

Get yourself a DA and some 120 grit paper and feather the whole thing out. ETA: Unless the paint has major flaws like crowes feet, cracks, peeling or curdling or theres old body work failing, I don't recommend taking it down to bare steel. Feathering out the existing paint fills low spots and...

    Paint Stripper

Honestly man, I don't think theres any way to strip a layer at a time & not have it turn out looking like a chewed on half dissolved jaw breaker. Why the desire to strip a layer at a time if I may ask?

Fuel pump wiring issue LS Swap

Whatever power source you choose make sure it is hot during “run” and “start” otherwise you’ll starve the injectors when cranking. Did you ever notice that many electronic accessories in a vehicle stop working when the key is in the “start” position? There’s only a few items that remain on to...

    DTR Epoxy Primer

I haven't used it on blasted steel yet but I have been washing bare steel with "Krud Kutter" Metal etch and clean. It actually starts rusting the steel but not the same as just natural rust, hard to explain. It will turn steel a blueish color. Perhaps you could do the final rinse with an...

Can someone ID this mounting part on a 75 core support?

Yup…. Outer hole goes to fender, bottom hole is for the lower valance

Can someone ID this mounting part on a 75 core support?

I think it goes to one of the two circled holes

Can someone ID this mounting part on a 75 core support?

IIRC The bolt hole facing outward goes to the fender and the downward facing one is the lower grille “valance” thing that fills the gap between the bumper and grille. I didn’t think to stop and take pictures before I got past that point.

    Cruise Control wire

Not sure where the factory cruise wire was routed but I'd bet if you pull the wheel, lockplate, take the screws out of the turn signal assembly and scoot it to the side some you could fish the new wire along the top of the column with the turn signal wires. Straighten a wire coat hanger (gas...

Bed prep if getting spray in liner???

I've only used Raptor liner (U-Pol brand) I bought from Amazon, some of the kits come with a schutz gun. U-Pol says a gallon kit is enough for a truck bed.

Bed prep if getting spray in liner???

I've watched a few videos of bed liner pro's using course nylon bristle cups on an angle grinder to scuff truck beds before spraying. Seems like they're all newer beds with real nice shiny paint though.
