    SM465 Release Bearing Discussion

The point is supposed to be there. Well, let me rephrase that... it's there on purpose. I've removed many and installed many that had that point made into the collar. I think it will be fine without it though. Many applications use a bearing that doesn't have the point in it.

    LT1 Swap Vendorss?

Wow! Are we back in 1997 now?! This is an awesome change of pace! The LT1 and LT4 swap was fairly common back in the 90's, but that was kinda pre-internet. Old magazines are chock full of old swap info. Although I guess that would probably all be OBD1 stuff.

What have you done to your square lately??

Yep, I'd file them down too. Or just cut my losses and get a good original GM regulator.

    Best 454 all around build

So, an '85 K20 was not available with a 454 from the factory. Before deciding the best course of action for the needs, you need to determine what your engine actually is. It could be whatever someone stuck in it. Block and head casting numbers would be very useful.

    Bowtie Brush guard.... Opinions?

It would look far better mounted on a garage wall.

Desperately look for this trim piece

I didn't realize he ordered it. I assumed it was dealer stock ordered. So he ordered it with no AC, but still had it installed later on?

Desperately look for this trim piece

Lol, I guess that answers my question on whether or not it was available as a separate option. Your truck has more options than you thought... it has FOUR options, haha.

What have you done to your square lately??

You can get a new lower "bearing" pretty cheaply, but there's also an upgraded one on the market. https://www.ebay.com/itm/172938510062?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=C7DMUyZfTB6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Vince's TBI woes, progressive revelations, and tbi mods.

I also would suggest checking the fuel pressure, even though the pump is new. As far as the distributor goes, yeah, that would be a suspect for me. I don't know about the rust on the pickup coil, I've seen some cruddy ones that ran great but also some that caused problems. Typically, an...

    Cab Light Mount Questions

This one from Astro is by far the slickest install tool I've ever used. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/apt-adn38?seid=srese1&ppckw=pmax-tools&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlvW2BhDyARIsADnIe-JRcEqFhq0nHkKX5RhUK2QznLq8IYmeQHGdxZ06Ti44B3Ta3E1oobAaArAaEALw_wcB The only issue with it is that it's so easy to...

    Driveshaft too short after lift?

That's what I'm seeing too. The slip portion of the shaft is now extended further than it was, which exposed an area that was coated in grease. After being driven, the grease of course was flung from the shaft. I'd pull the shaft, with the rear axle hanging, to check for sufficient spline...

    Cab Light Mount Questions

Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at, that there was a design change at some point and the earlier trucks didn't get a dedicated roof stamping for the cab lights. For the trucks anyway. Does anyone know if the Suburbans wound up with a dedicated roof stamping as well? So few of them...

    Cab Light Mount Questions

Yeah, well nuts is another name. They take more force than that to install though. They install like a big rivet. The use of a rivnut install tool is by far the best way to install them, but you can do the same thing (carefully) with a long bolt and a stack of washers. There are several types of...

Olds Bravada, GMC Jimmy, Chevy Blazer rear ends

I'll guess that the pinion bearing blew while the truck was at speed and the momentum of the truck did it's thing to the pinion that no longer wanted to turn. But that's just a guess. Or it was extreme abuse, lol.

    Cab Light Mount Questions

That original GM piece looks to just be a nutsert. It's been many years since I had the cab lights off of my '79, but I don't remember it having the special stamped roof skin with nuts pressed and welded to the skin for the lights, like on the later models. If I pulled a lense off to refresh my...

    1989 Chevy K1500

Like I said, I've never actually weighed them. Just lifted a bunch of them and never really noticed that they were heavier. Maybe that's why my back hurts so much these days, lol.

Olds Bravada, GMC Jimmy, Chevy Blazer rear ends

Bravadas got the 7.5/7.6 differential. The only ones that got the bigger differential were ZR2's and 5-speed Blazers/Jimmys. The 5 speed was not available in 4 door rigs.

    1989 Chevy K1500

I don't *think* the newer doors are much heavier, if at all. I've never weighed them, but they feel about the same I guess. It's my belief that the hinge pins fail more often on the '88-up trucks due to the design of the cab. Rain water runs down the channel in the upper door jamb and right...
