Need AC help!

85 stock set up minute emissions. New compressor, new lines, new low pressure switch, no leaks. Compressor is kicking in and out with controls turned to off. Acts like a wiring issue but all stock wires in good condition. Thoughts? Was some emissions piece removed that could be causing this? Could the wiring connection on the controls be suspect? Looking for help from anyone that may have encountered similar issue

I would suspect the controller. The switch maybe bad. The only other thing I would guess at is there is a short in the wiring harness putting power to the AC compressor connecter. I would unplug the connector and get a voltmeter, or test light and trouble shoot from there. Move the switch to heat, and off. Key on, key off, engine running and not. Verify that the voltage turns off and on at the connector.

Power is supplied by the switch on the dash. This power goes through the hi and low pressure switches, either of which can disrupt the power supply to the compressor. The compressor is activated by supplying power to the electromagnet that is under the pulley. So why is your pump coming on by itself?

The "defrost" option on your dash also supplies power to the hi and low pressure switches.

Why? Because the defrost is using the A/C system as a dehumidifier in order to de-fog the windshield faster.

Solution: Put a simple toggle switch on the dash and run those two wires to either the hi or low pressure A/C switch so that you can manually disrupt the power supply to the compressor. This way you can run "defrost" without the pump coming on. This is the setup that I currently have.

An easier solution is to just unplug the wire that goes to the pump, or one of the pressure switches.
