The battery ends of both cables are clean, shiny, and bare. I usually run a Group 78, and use charging lugs as the battery cable bolts. Much easier to clup an in bed sprayer pump to than normal side terminal bolts. Now, tbh, I cannot remember when I last changed out the negative cable, the one that got so hot, so fast. Cables are cheap, will start there.

the dexcool is only an issue if your heater core and radiator are old brass/copper type

I assume the heater core is probably but a replacement radiator might not be
Stock heater core, aluminum/plastic radiator. Just like the one that popped an end tank seam. 2017ish radiator hoses, heater hoses might be originals.

If the battery terminal was welding HOT cut the cable back and install a New clamp on terminal. The weakest point in a circuit will become the hottest when attempting to draw a large amount of current through it. Check the voltage from the battery terminal to the rear of the alternator when trying to start. it should be no more than .1-.7 volts. This is assuming that the terminal that got hot was the positive one.

All of this except for post 7 is assuming the engine turns freely. Pull the plugs and turn it over by hand. Does it turn free?

Yes, turns freely with the plugs out. Can lay under it and turn it via the crankshaft pulley. Air pump belt is removed.

Positive cable end was cold, negative cable end was sizzling hot.
