Getting my 84 GMC C1500 ready for Power Tour and looking to see if my theory is correct. It's been 40 years since I have replaced a dimmer switch. The dimmer switch stalk has felt spongy since I bought the truck, no crisp click when changing from high to low beam and the high beam indicator lights would work sporadically. I got a new dimmer switch and went to install it last night. dropped the column down and tried working the old switch while it was still in place, it clicked like it should. Worked the stalk on the column everything worked fine, cycled through high and low beam and high beam indicator lights came on.
I put the column back up in position and stalk felt spongy again and when it did cycle no high beam indicators.
I'm thinking the switch has been replaced before and they didn't adjust the switch all the way up on the rod before they pulled the retainer clip out of the switch.
The truck has tilt wheel and air so the switch mounting hardware is hard to feel and see. My 66 year old back isn't happy laying under a dash anymore, so I would like the easiest fix possible.
Thank you in advance for any input.
