Hi all, I am trying to work out all of the kinks of my 87, I am trying to get my truck to do it's seat belt warning chime when the key is first turned on, the fasten seat belt light does not come on either, the buzzer box under the dash works, it comes on when the door is open with the key in the ignition, and it chimes when the headlights are left on also. If anybody has a wiring diagram for an 87, that would be greatly appreciated

I'll post the 87 schematic in a few minutes when I find it. This attachment will probably help you more.
It all connects to the convenience center. The blk/wht-238 wire runs to the seat belt switch to complete it to ground when the seat belt is not pulled out. Probably that is where your problem will be- that switch can be problematic.

87 wiring manual- starts on page 163. 1987 r/v truck
Link to wiring manuals

87 is a little more difficult to follow than earlier manuals. The attachments are page 175 & 176.

blk/wht-238 runs to seat belt switch and blk-150 runs to ground. I believe earlier seat belts use to ground them directly at the seat belt instead of using the blk-150 wire.

Located inside the cover on the seat belt retractor.

This attachment is 88- should be the same- easier to read

Located here-see attachment I've only personally fixed 85 and older- but should be the same.

I think there is a pretty decent chance that is unplugged in mine, the carpet was replaced prior to me buying the truck, and the seatbelt retractor was removed for that, I will check it out tomorrow

I just took apart my seat belt retractor. There is no switch and looks like there never was one there I also looked everywhere for an electrical connector that matched the colors in the schematic and there is nothing, is there somewhere else that switch could be?

Plugged it in and now works perfectly
Great..
For my knowledge- where was the retractor switch located? Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve only worked on 85 and earlier- one blk/wht wire & switch was on retractor (like in previous attachment)

I wish all fixes were that easy, I prefer to disable my seat belt alarms. I am assuming the previous owner felt the same way.

there was a connector coming out of the seat belt buckle, and i plugged it in and it worked like it should. im assuming the switch opens/closes based on if the seat belt is latched or not. there where two wires going to it, one was white, one was black. thank you for those diagrams, those where very helpful
