Leave it alone. It's a survivor and should be respected. I never got the idea of making a truck look like the suspension had failed.

While we're at it, what's with the giant-@$$ rims and rubber band tires? I can understand wanting larger rims than the factory 15s and 16s, but why you'd want your truck to look like you stole the wheels off a locomotive is beyond me.

Leave it as it is. Looks great. I like stock height and stock wheels on old trucks.

Good point. When we got our truck the first thing I pushed for was aftermarket wheels. The old man wasn't going to do it for reasons best dealt with elsewhere.

In time, I really came to like the 16" white steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps.

It has the alloys off the Suburban on it right now, and they look great, but as soon as I can I'm getting the factory wheels stripped and painted and they're going back on. It just looks right that way. It's not the first time that resisting impulses has made me appreciate what went into something originally.

You guys and your hate for lowered trucks or anything but 15" wheels crack me up :lol: OP, if your roads were better, I'd say absolutely drop it. But if they're as bad as you say, I'd leave it alone. My truck is 5/8 on 20s and has been cross country twice and many miles in between, with the right parts combo they still ride very good. But it's definitely stiffer than stock and certain roads do hurt a bit

But I also enjoy driving our bone stock '76 6cyl/3OTT shop truck. It definitely rides much better over rough roads and gets just as much attention for being stock as my hotrod does

Maybe it’s just me, but it takes quite a bit to make a vehicle something I just outright don’t care for.

I generally like stockers, lifted, and lowered about the same.

For example (hope bucket and strick don’t mind me using their photos):

I like it the way it is but if you want to lower it and retain the ride as much as possible get some lowering shackles for the rear (2") and 1"-2" spindles for the front.

I lowered my 1982 in the mid 1980's. Yes one of the few lowered late model trucks on the east coast. Yes people stared and were wowed.

I lowered my ‘81 around 1985 to be different, and got lots of stares, especially being in a small town on the Louisiana / Mississippi border.

That was the good old days before “kits” were available. Had Trailmaster make a set of 4” drop front coils, cut the bump stops off the lower control arms, added bump stops to the upper arm, and cut and moved the lower ball joints inward 5/8”. Made my own flip kit, etc. Saw my old 81 for sale about 2 years ago in Vicksburg, MS still close to how I had built it.

Now, would probably keep one stock height, just to be different.

Agreed, I like all kinds of different styles. If I ever win the lottery, I'll have quite the eclectic collection

I wouldnt fiddle with it unless its built to go fast, a stock truck on stock ride height is nice

-signed a guy whos both lifted and lowered squarebodies

I’ve been on the fence of dropping one but only a 1/3 drop. Mine has the F44 chassis so I’m certain it will be a bumpier ride…

I am a fan of stock height for the most part, so I'd leave it alone if it were mine. However, I only drive 4x4 trucks, and I treat them like trucks, so they wouldn't function the way I want them too if lowered. Lowered trucks can look really badass, but it bugs me that they have become trendy now, and are EVERYWHERE, just like "patina"!! I hate trendy **** with no real purpose. I considered getting a firefighter tattoo years ago until the whole dang world got tatted; now I'm more unique because I don't have any. I also dislike excessively lifted trucks with giant tires even more than I dislike lowered ones. A couple inches lift is fine and can be pretty useful, but once you get past 3" or 4" lift, it's gone too far IMO.

For the record, I'm not bashing anyone's tastes - do what makes you happy and looks good to you, but I wish folks would quit bugging other people to lower or lift them. Enjoy yours, and let him enjoy his without bugging the poor man!

OP - nice truck!! Drive the **** out of it.
