Now I have said I decided on using a 350 Classic SBC but I decided for what I want to use the truck for, reliability, fuel efficiency(that ill have left) and with the tires (36x10.5r16, STA Superlug Traxion Tread E)

I'm gonna stroke out one of the two Vortec engines. 5.3 or 4.8(Which ever i find first since they're the same block) with a 4L80e and wanted to know if anyone has stroked these out or if anyone has more information on the topic. Prefered parts/recomended parts would be much appreciated.

All I want to make is 500ftlb of tourqe atleast with that 383 CI number we all love. I'll be using this as an all around truck. Hunting, Highway, Grocery Getter, Hauling, Local Shows ect. I want to just use the truck as a truck. This will not be a garage ornament or a pavement princess.

Any extra tips and tricks are welcome since I'll be basically rebuilding the truck(1979 k10 to k20 conversion) from the ground up. I live in Brandenburg Kentucky so if anyone knows any parts places or people to buy parts from it would be much appreciated

I'll give ya a little piece of advice, if you're looking for that kinda torque number, go ahead and start with a 6.0. Take some of that money you'd put toward the stroker kit and put it up front for buying the 6.0, it'll get you that number much easier/cheaper. The right cam/head/intake combo will get you close if not past that 500lbft. If you find the right deal on a 6.0, you should be able to build that up for the same or less money than a stroker 5.3. Or throw in a little more money for a 408 or 416 stroker kit.

I'm looking at something similar for my daily '05 Z71 in the future. Planning on a 6.0 (LQ4 and LQ9 are the same engine, but the LQ9 has flat top pistons for some more compression. LQ4s are generally cheaper), probably an LQ4. They come with 317 heads, so I plan to use my 706/862s from my 5.3 cuz they have a smaller chamber, so that'll bump the compression up. That, paired with a TBSS intake/larger throttle body and something similar to the Texas Speed Stage 2 low lift or high lift cam should be somewhere in the 450-500lbft ballpark.

I have considered a 6.0 but the main reason I want to stroke it out to a 383 is to have that classic number. If I was just going for tourqe I'd just 8.1 or 454 vortec swap it and call it a day. Whitch is still a possibility if I do find a good price on one but if I'm gonna buy it all and build it myself, I'm just gonna make the 383. anything can happen though obviously tomorrow i may change my mind, we all know how building a truck goes

Okay building an engine just to be a certain displacement, and not based off a racing sanction, not my idea of a good reason to build it. But you could build a 6.0 into a 383 or a 402. 402 sounds better to me. Your 5.3 version compared to a 6.0 version will be way under square,I prefer a more square or over square engine. Good luck

A Scat rotating Assembly for a 5.3 is $3000+See Here: https://www.scatcrankshafts.com/product/1-44830bi/
I have both a 6.0 LQ4 and BBC, building one now, and no cheap date for sure. 383 from a gen 1 350 is fairly reasonable, if you have the motor etc. I would look at your budget real hard, as everything adds up fast. Have over $5000 in mine and not done yet....

You aren't going to get 383 actual displacement from an LS unless you start with an actual LS1. The math just doesn't work out for any other LS engine. TSP and several other manufacturers make actual 383 stroker kits for LS1 blocks: https://www.texas-speed.com/p-18513...Z4PMewTi63QA-MaNjT-BAM4LPIriH5fRoCVeUQAvD_BwE

You'd be time and money(and HP) ahead to just swap a 6.2L L9H/L92/L94 in and drive the 405hp in stock form. A nice cam and high stall converter will get you another 100hp or so with no other changes.

You could bore a 6.0 block and run a 3.75 crank. That would get you a 383,you could run a stock 6.0 block and and 3.81stroke,you could bore a 5.3 to 5.7 bore and run 4.01 crank and get 383. May not even have to bore it that far if you can put enough stroke in it. Is it smart I don't think so,but it can be done, you just have to do the math and pay for the machine work, and parts, some will probably have to custom made.I've built weirdo stroker motors back before buying kits was an option. General information for those that don't know, buying a stroker kit isn't what makes it a stroker motor.Increasing the crank stroke is what makes it a stroker. I've had 2.165 journal VW cranks offset ground for 2.0 chevy rods, BMW cranks offset ground for VW rabbit rods, rebushed for Type 1 VW pins running forged 92mm pistons, others engines I've had to have pistons made. You can build your 383 but you may need to get creative, and ready to spend money.

Huh. Didn't know there was a 362 stroker kit for a 5.3. That essentially makes it a 6.0 (364). Hmm
