So my truck didn't have a cigarette lighter so I put one in months ago and tested with test light was getting power to the socket so I called her good. Never used it.
Anyway forgot lighter so figured just use the cigarette lighter. Lighter would pop wasn't getting hot.
Took out threw a test light on socket was getting power tried again nothing.
I noticed the bottom courtesy lights under the dash were coming on every time was depressed.
And it ended up blowing the horn fuse as well.
I'm pretty sure that orange wire is for the lighter, all other lights are hooked up.
So I'm a little confused as what's going on.

Well it would seem that the orange wire is not the correct power wire. I can't look for a wiring schematic without knowing year and model so. I just remembered what I can do to see your make and model,so now that Ive looked at that Ill try to find a schematic. On the future your posts shoukd include what you are wirking on. It makes people trying to helps life easier and helps get more accurate information. This is what most if us see on first look at your post.

Looks like it should be orange with a stripe. I believe straight orange goes to headlight switch. @Jgonick is really good at finding accurate wiring diaghrams,me not so much, hopefully he'll read this and pitch in. 1983 k25. I looked up a 75 k25.

I'll do some more digging around see if I missed a wire. That orange wire was just sitting there I assumed that's what it went to

ORN-240 Splits off horn relay and continues to lighter

the HORN-DM fuse would be the correct fuse.

power comes from ORN-40 wire coming from light switch(splits there). Not sure why they would be coming on- they are somehow being grounded. They are suppose to be grounded through the white wire WHT-156 that runs to the light switch and/or the door jamb switch. The white wire splits to the dome light and door jamb at the courtesy light usually.

Just a side note- Dome light gets power from ORN-140 but shares WHT-156 to ground it.

There should be an orange wire with a copper/brass spade connector that gives power to the cig lighter, id imagine it grounds to the ashtray itself or it uses the dash ground (i think it grounds through the ashtray)
is the "other" orange wire, the other one leads to that light

Some year must have used an orange with black stripe to the cig lighter, I have the ashtray assembly out of I think a 1977 K20, and i believe that the harness was factory, and heres some parts of it
You must be registered for see images attach

The spade connector would have been on the cig lighter

The white wire and orange to the lamp you see are stock. The 194 bulb base for the ashtray lamp is also attached to this harness, mine is just hanging , I ran the ground to my dash of my f150

And then I ran the power to my dome lamp to piggyback for the floor (easiest to do on this ford)

Yeah that wiring is what I got going on too. Could these door plunger things be the culprit? They too have never worked lol
If they are would unhooking them solve the issue you figure?
Drivers side is broken/missing plunger piece

well I think I figured out what's going on,He's picking up power at the ground side of the courtesy lights, somehow. When he pushes in the lighter the lights light in series with the cigarette lighter, like christmas tree lights. Since the voltage is divided by the 2 loads he doesn't have tge voltage to heat the element.

In theory, if the door jamb switches were grounding your courtesy & dome light would be on all the time. The courtesy & dome light have power all the time (unless the fuses are blown)- Check the "T/L CTSY" & "HORN DM" fuses
Does your dome & courtesy light work when you twist the light pull switch? (this grounds them at the light switch)

The door jamb switches are not very expensive and easy to replace. Around 84ish you can disconnect them right before they go through the grommet in side wall heading to the door. I'm not sure if there is a connector there on 83.

Makes sense to me- Just have to figure out how.

If I'm thinking correctly- he could remove the courtesy (and possibly dome also) light bulbs & see if his cig lighter works.
