Did you know that in Colorado they have made former military trucks illegal for highway use? And people with collections can no longer drive them on the road...

Highly doubtful it’s enforced, pull up to any intersection or parking lot and you will see at least one expired registration, usually many expired.

Replaced my old steering shaft on the Blazer with a Borgeson shaft with universal joints and also replaced the lower bearing on the steering column. When I removed the old bearing I thought it came out too easy and then saw the plastic retainer was broken.

Job was pretty straightforward and took just under 3 hours start to finish. The new shafts need to be cut to the correct length and then drilled for a set screw so this took a bit to measure 18 times and cut once. Lol. Even with heat and an overnight soaking with penetrating oil the old shaft would not collapse to allow removal but 15 seconds with the Sawzall remedied that problem!

Huge improvement! Steering is tight and responsive and tracks much better.
Very clean! Where did you end up getting the Borgeson shaft? Also, does this replacement eliminate the rag joint at the steering gear? Or would the one you got not work on my '73 C10?

@BRetty I bought the shaft from The Steering Store from their eBay store. It does replace the rag joint with a universal joint. It is the Borgeson 000932 which says its for 73-76 Chevy or GMC trucks.

I had a rag joint break once and the steering wheel just spun endlessly. The car had a left front brake that would grab, too. And I'd just gotten off the freeway after doing 100MPH+. One of those nine lives kinds of things...

Put on the Halibrands today. I’m adjusting to the look. Definitely has a proper 70s/80s vibe with the rear dish.
I wish I would’ve gone with the 4.75 BS front, but the 5.25 is the only one they had that color matched. Rear didn’t rub at all, at least on my usual road bumps that I always drive. The front is another matter- definitely need to get those bigger inner fenders on.

Trying to give The '87 a little more...Offroad Cred. I installed a set of Engineered Vintage Shackle Brackets and a new slotted front air dam. Finished it off with a pair of red shackles from Harbor Freight. Gave it a sort of AT4/Trailboss vibe with the red tow hook thing.

The Engineered Vintage brackets are massive:

On my sitter every time I drive it I have to add quarts to my transmission. So I'm hopeful putting an end to it soon. I tried everything else to stop it and it's frustrating. Found cheap lol , decent aluminum pan with drain for $70

I would bet it's the front pump seals.

It happened to me turning into a driveway and that was interesting. Could only imagine what kinda panic you had lol. Glad you made it

I guess ill Find out. Never used to leak. I serviced it and then the leak began. Later came back and redid the pan gasket and it improved but still leaking.

It is home and officially in the stable! Brother took it for a spin and it is gear LOWWWWWW. Apparently it’s an off road BEAST. I’ll be the judge of that.

Lube locker gasket if one is available. Have been very pleased with all of the ones I have used. Somewhere around 6 of them, and have two more to be installed. Rear ends and transmissions.
