LS swaps are helping to keep the squarebodies in the mainstream and can be done with a moderate amount of skill and patience. This also means that the market for the 2000-2007ish models will likely increase as well. But, the cost for the electronics, diagnostic tools, drivetrains, etc and the challenges to rehab the newer stuff outside of a dealership are going to make much of what has been built in the past 10 years more or less, disposable. How the government regulates oil, antique vehicles, inspections, taxes etc will all affect whether muscles cars stay around or we just morph into driving the people's car.

I have a late model 2500 that mostly sits in the garage. Everyone has their preference for what they like to drive, I just don't foresee many 2019 Silverados sitting in a guy's garage around 2050 getting a restoration.
The mechanical parts will be available, and or made. The electronics and wiring such as the can buss, BCM's, TCM's etc. is what will kill them off. I don't for see the aftermarket or the OEM's making those parts for more than 10 years after the model run. The OEM's are already wanting to keep a lot of the parts and diagnostic info proprietary to themselves. I feel that way when I drive by a new truck .

Vehicles are growing in size, and here, our local government is shrinking lane widths, taking lanes away, all in the name of modernization in an industrial town with tons of ag, oil, and many other industries abundant
Today's world is so fed up. More and more, I am starting to look forward to the end of the world. I used to fear it. Maybe I am just getting too old!

I say if you have to have an LS, put a carb or carbs on it and a distributor on it. Electronics quickly become obsolete, then they soon quit making replacements. Carbs and distributors are easily rebuildable.

I agree with that statement as well. With all the electronics and emissions junk that are on newer vehicles, they are pretty much manufactured to go for 300K miles and then be junked. I've said many times that nobody is ever going to raise a garage door and say "It's a Tesla! My dream car"! I believe the industry is continuing to make it extremely difficult to maintain an older vehicle and if they make them disposable after a certain time period or mileage threshold then Big Brother can put the zap on it and disable remotely.

It is the EPA doing that. They don't want people to keep vehicles that they feel are emitting more poisonous emissions, and scolding people hasn't worked the way they hoped it would, so they give tax credits to auto makers who make their vehicles impossible to fix. That way they will be junked instead of restored.

Even if availability of electronics dies,there will still be enough supplies in the bone yards and NOS to last the rest of all of our lives. It may take a little more knowledge,and creativity. Like old sbc crank triggered ignition on LS and there are tons of ECMs capable of batch firing injectors.

Yuppers! After I got my OBS crew cab, I was at the local toy show. Knowing how long the truck is, and knowing what room we had at the venue (and that room doesn't have much parking in front of it), we got there early so we could back in near the door. Two other vendors came in, in new Chevy crew cab shorties, and those truck shaped objects are only a foot or so shorter than my truck...with half the usable bed/load space!
I don't have the bed full on mine often, but when I do, I need all eight feet of it....

Yes they are. Had to use a new rental 1/2 ton Silverado a week ago. Was free, my car was hit and in the body shop. Way higher and larger than either of the SB.

Throttle was a suggestion, sluggish from a stop. Motor and tranny had to think a while before anything would happen. Was also sluggish switching back and forth between a V8 and V4.

Government requirements have ruined new vehicles.
You must’ve gotten a defective rental. I’ve experienced none of that in 4 or 5 new 1/2 ton Silverados, 6,8 or 10 speed. 5.3 or Dmax.

My 22 gmc is just as tall as my burb and the burb has a 6 inch lift and 35's... lol
It’s great that we finally get the trucks we used to have to “build”.
But can never make everyone happy. Complain it’s too small complain it’s too big. More truth in the Goldilocks table than one might have ever thought.
Perspective, 5” lift on 35s vs leveled 1/2 ton Trailboss.

Yeah, that's possible. Rentals are usually not treated the same as owned. Doesn't GM have issues with torque convertors shedding metal requiring tranny o-hauls? May be that was the problem with it.

Don't get me wrong, I have been a GM truck fan for a long........... long time. In our business we got the best service out of them. MUCH better than Dodge, slightly better than Ford.

It was a tongue in cheek response. Since every Silverado has over 300hp and a crisp shifting 10speed. There ain’t a slug in the bunch.
And the trans is the same as the F150s, both mfgs been using them for 4-5 years now with relatively few issues.
Actually it must have been defective. Or did you feel the slight turbo lag of the 4 banger?

That's a mid 80's Monte Carlo LS factory aluminum wheel. I've always liked them. I have a set of them.... that I'll, uh..... use on something one day. Lol.
