Anyone ever refurbished their hood ornament? The one on my 87 is faded completely out. It also says GMC instead of having the Chevy logo in it, and the truck is a silverado. Maybe someone stole the hood ornament at one time. Never been in an accident. So is there any way to take it all apart, and change out the inside? Thank you

It's gotta come apart somehow! lol

But yeah, I guess nothing is going to make the "GMC" become a chevy logo. So two more questions:

1. Does the logo tend to fade because of the sun?

2. Are thieves a problem? I've heard of lots of different vehicles having their hood ornament stolen.

Yeah I started looking at some wacky hood ornaments after he posted that ebay link. There's some really cool older chevy hood ornaments. I'd consider using them instead if they were somewhat inexpensive, the same size or a bit smaller, and had the chevy logo on them. Maybe I'll have to make a hood ornament someday. Not sure what kind of plastic they used on the squarebody ornaments though. Gotta be some tough stuff, even though it seems to crack sometimes.

Maybe non-yellowing marine epoxy.

I’ve got an old one that came on the truck that on one side the plastic “cover” popped out of. The tin logo under it is still in tact. Prolly glued in originally.
Idk but probably mess up the chrome surround or break the plastic trying to remove it.
The plastic could be poured back in clear epoxy though.

I think the hood rat, I mean hood ornament necklace fad left the earth along with the turn of the century.
But either way I think you’re safe. No self respecting ****** or nagger wants a GMC necklace!
Now if youz rollin dirty in the hood in a Benz ….different story. Lol!

You can make anything you want. Use a custom foil decal for that matter.

There's alot of cool things that could be made / repopped and make cheaper en mass (75pcs) but I'd be sitting on 70 of them for 10 yrs.

I'd still like to make this, but for the same reason, probably wont.

Some guy on another site claimed to have taken his apart and put a pic of his bare butt in there, back in high school. If I can manage to get the thing apart without destroying it, I may be able to fix it myself somehow. Even if my chevy logo isn't exactly the same as OEM

lol hood ornament. Reminds me of our buick century in the 80's when I was a teenager. I was half asleep in the back seat and then I heard a loud thump. A bird had flown across in front of us and the ornament obliterated it all over the windshield. Who had to clean the windshield.....you guessed it. Was the worst windshield I'd ever cleaned....and I was working at one of the last full service stations in our town at the time so I'd seen some nasty RV's and such. Man it stunk!

I have recently been making Hood Ornaments for both GM and Chevy trucks from 73 to 87. I have several listings on EBAY and I am interested in helping people get as close to original or totally custom emblems. here is the listing for 73 to 80 for $28.69 https://www.ebay.com/itm/126267447702
