Skool me on timing w/o timing tab

If your truck is an 85 and it has the original cover, the timing tab will be at 12 o'clock behind the water pump like 77Dmax said. You have to climb up and look straight down to see it.

Spark plug gap closed fresh rebuild

Detonation will close up a plug just like that :(

Press-in rocker arm studs migrating up.

That is not enough difference to worry about. They are not as accurate from the factory as people think When they really start to pull out you will be able to see it at the bottom of the stud where it goes into the head. I have a brand new set of Vortec heads here and I just measured them...

    81 C10 383 stroker stinks

If it stinks then something is wrong. You say its not rich but it probably is. Cars back in the 60's 70's did not run as clean as modern ones but they did not stink. They always ran a little rich when cold because of the choke but once the choke opens they can be very "clean" running. You...

Finding engine year off engine code?

Those manifolds were definitely used on trucks. My 85 K5 Blazer had them.

Finding engine year off engine code?

What is the block casting number on the back right near the distributor ? A lot of people dont realize it but there were actually carbureted versions up until 1988. Thats probably what it is.

To Gasket, or not to Gasket?

I have never heard of only RTV on a big block Chevy engine for valve covers. Oldsmobile did it on some late model engines but the valve covers had little bumps to space them away from the head the correct distance. On Big Block Chevys its either a traditional cork or rubber gasket or on the...

    Camshaft input from experience.

If it was me I would put the Howards in it but then again I dont care how it sounds, only in how it runs. Realistically 99% of street engines never even see 4500 rpm. Having an rpm range that goes to 6000 is a waste. You will "feel" the lower rpm power gains but you really never "feel" the...

    Will this fit that??

It looks like the Caddy engine has a hydraulic roller cam as compared to yours being flat tappet. I dont know if there is enough difference in the cam specs that your ecm shouldnt be able to compensate ? Otherwise it should all bolt in and hook up ok. Worse case you might have to swap the...

    Engine oil cooler hoses

Just make sure they aren't Dorman lines in the LMC box :( Would not surprise me.

    Camshaft input from experience.

What i tell my customers is that those two really do not go together that well :( If you talked to Eric at Howards I would feel very comfortable listening to what he suggests.

    Engine oil cooler hoses

Is this for your 87 R30 ? Looks like GM parts Giant has the inlet hose: https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-hose-12472199.html The other hose should be a 12472194 and it is available on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-12472194-Original-Equipment-Engine/dp/B0049Z8GVC You might want...

I would also say Jasper or ATK. Not sure if you can buy direct from Jasper or if you have to go through a dealer.

    Oil Pressure Goes to Zero!

The simple way to figure out the problem is to put a mechanical gauge on it. That will tell you for sure and you can trouble shoot from that point. I am in agreement with the others that it is 99% certainly an electrical problem and it might not even be in the wires at the gauge or sending...
