I have a 1984 GMC half ton 2wd. I am replacing the leaf springs and shackles. Going to use new bolts and u bolts. Have searched for Torque values but can't find any.
Any help would be appreciated.

However tight the old ones feel getting off, just tighten them about the same. I've never torqued any of that stuff, just went as tight as felt good and been fine

Depends on the size and make up of u bolts, anywhere from 70ftlb to 150ftlbs, I do something in the middle 80-100ftlbs

Some fasteners need to be torqued. Some fasteners need to be as tight as you can reasonably get them.

A big bolt on a leaf spring, I’ve never torqued one but I’ll run them down until my air gun starts sweating. If you don’t have air tools, make it a little tighter than a lug nut.

Something that is important is to get all the bolts in place and the nuts started then put the weight back on the tires (not jack stands) then tighten the bolts. You don’t want the bushings all bound up because they’re tight and can’t rotate a tiny bit when you put the truck back on the ground and the springs squat some and the shackles change positions.

The eye bolts yeah just goodntight em. The ubolts though, I would torque those. I think my 5/8 u bolts were generically set at about 100ftlbs.

If you overtorque u bolts they have a chance of snapping because of overstretch. An axle coming out from under the truck is probably the worst catastrophic failure a solid axle vehicle can experience.

I don't half ass u bolts. Will not be a fun ride, I can promise you that

Do them in an X pattern on the u-bolts and tighten up equally (a little on each bolt at a time) or you will have one side that hangs lower than the other.

Who did you get the springs from if you don't mind me asking? And how do they look? I just recently bought some and are not happy with them at all.

Also, I would drive the truck a bit to get some movement into the suspension. That will settle the bushes ( and any internal bind ), then check and "re-torque".
