I am getting a serp belt setup off of a 88 burb with all acc to go on my 84. Its free so why not right what is the pros and cons on doing this.

I got mine off a 85 k20 it allows me to run a 140 amp cs144. My dimming issues are gone.

Its not a 88 its a 92 big block 454 my bro says it should still work for me.. anyone put a newer serpentine setup on a 84 big block

big block to big block works but small block and big block mixing cause some issues on fitment.

I've got a complete serp. setup off my 88 for sale right now, going back to v belt on mine. Only reason is because I think v belt looks cleaner.

Ok I think I have it figured out... need a new reverse rotation water pump.. the alternator is a 3 wire so that should work just move it over..the ac get lines made no biggy... new smog pump with pully...now the power steering pump dosent have remote reservoir idk if that matters ? It had hydro boost so should wrk.. then replace all the tensioners and pullyd to new ones

alternators won't switch over. the mounting holes are located in different places. At least my 88 is compared to an old style alt. Also the plugin for the old ones are just flat and long rectangle shaped, the new style like on my 88 is more l- shaped or like a reg. rectangle shape but one side is thicker/bigger. I know that's hard to understand without a picture but they are different. I'd say they could be swapped easy enough but if the bolt holes aren't right that's another story.

Also a good note besides mine being for a sbc, mines the steel horseshoe type and not the alum. setup so maybe that makes the alt. mounting different?

It is the steel one ill look at the plugs on it tonight was hoping it just plug in but probly not its all different

plugin could be swapped but the mounting holes on the old v belt type are different locations then the serp. ones.

Swapped several big blocks to serpentine setups. Most of the later bbc's with it the steel brackets were broke. Gen 5(I think) and up 454's had cast iron brackets that weighed a ton. Pico make a conversion harness for the alternators. You don't need a steering pump with the remote reservoir but should have two return ports for the brake booster and steering. Have used SBC conversion brackets and a BBC. Allows the use of SBC brackets on a BBC,

Is it possible to use a electric smog pump instead of having it run off the belt. Would eemission people care if its not original.. I think it would be easier to run it that way .. what electric smog pump would work just an idea anyone done it

That is so bad ass, glad I clicked on this.

I had a full serpentine setup for a small block but I gave it to another member on here. I did just acquire a 1990 parts truck with a small block, I honestly never looked under the hood. Will it have the same cast aluminum stuff?

Electric pump off a 4th gen Camaro/firebird would work. We have used them as a vacuum pump on race engines. Was a pump factory installed on an 84 truck? Mine didn't but it is a 3500. Serp system off a car would have the pump with it. Be the way to go if you need to retain it for inspection. Every state seems to have different views on needs to be present and how it is being used. Best to ck with local laws on what needs to be there.

1990 system would work. Most pickups didn't have a smog pump and the bracket is better suited for the conversion. Just need to ck with local laws for your particular situation.

pretty sure they ran the big steel brackets up to 90 or 91, and after were the alum. ones.

Ill go look at the 93 camero one looks like it would wrk the brackets I have has a spot for it but has a idler pully or delete for it on it now. Any bit of freed up power would help. Just cant tell from picture if it has all the hose plug ins. And yes it has to have it here I phx .
