Even though it was done back in '79, I still :sad72:

That explains the infamous squarebody creased hood phenomenon. It was probably designed weak in that area so it would fold in an accident. Cool video.

I'm glad you found this. My wife and I frequently debate how my hoopdie would hold up in a wreck...not saying im pleased in seeing the trashing that the passengers took (Face to the steering wheel:banghead::anitoof:)...but I don't intend on hitting any brick walls at 30mph. If I get in a wreck it will be because a deer ran out in front of me or someone locked up the brakes in front of me and I couldn't stop as quick as them.

Is it sad that I know how to minimize that damage to nearly nothing with only about an hours work?

Very interesting- thanks for posting.

Do have a question about the "skid plates" over the gas tanks that are seen in the video of the undercarriage. I've owned several '70s chevy trucks and only the one I currently own has them. I thought it was the rancher that had it before me that added them.

Anyone know anything about them? Were they a special option?

Perfectly explains why the curb weight of a 1968–1972 A-body is about the same as a 2013 VW Passat. :D

I have no clue. I know there are different bracket types but always figured it was changes made along the way to try and improve the side impact exploding tank theory.
