My '79 Chevy has a 350 from an '81 vette with a th350. I do a lot of highway driving (my girlfriend lives an hour way). So I am wanting a th700r4. I have the opportunity to pick up a working tranny out of a 90's suburban. Problem is the suburban is a 4x4. What will I need to make this tranny work in my truck?

The tail shaft will have to be changed out, I have the opposite problem I have 2 700r’s for a 2x4 and I need one for a 4x4. You will have to pull the transmission apart and swap them out

Thank you for your input. I’ll keep looking for a 2x4.

You'll prefer to find one from an 87 or later for the best reliability. To bad that 90 unit won't work. I wish I was closer to that guy. If it was cheap enough, I'd buy it for my K5. It still has the Original 86 unit it. I'm not sure if it still works or not until I get a running engine in it. I do have a 89 core to build though if I need to.
