True some are but most arent, its better to error on the side of caution rather than tell someone to buy one and the one they get doesnt have it. That said if you are going to swap in a used vortec change the cam they are tiny stock and iirc retarded to help pass emissions.

Thanks for straightening me out. I always forget that the later blocks were, in fact, machined to accept a mechanical pump.

I talked to the local machine shop about machining a block for a mechanical fuel pump.
He said there is a jig for performing that job, and cost to do the work would be about $25.00
Anyone heard of that??

OK, The purchase has been made.
Block casting # 10243880 it is an 880 block
It is an 880 block.typically shown to be a roller block.
The engine came out of a '93 GMC 1500, but most sites list this block as
being used from 95 to 2000, but other sites sat from 87 to ???
Date code A307 so, 1997 ?? 1987 ??
Most say either L31 Vortec or ZZ4 crate motor.
I have seen it listed as being used in a few 95 trucks w/TBI.
My motor has TBI and swirl port heads.
Unsure if 2 bolt or 4 as of yet, and do not yet know if roller cam.

The mechanical fuel pump mounting site has a plate w/4 attaching bolts,
so here's hoping it is mechanical fuel pump ready.

For now, I have to get it out of the back of my truck, pressure wash and put on the stand.
Then the fun will commence.............

Engine block IS machined for mechanical FP !! YEEHAW !!
Serial # is a mystery,tho....... on a sticker on block in front of pass side head: U621xxxx
Another mystery..........

If he really has the jig (they are about $600), then yes this is a legit procedure. But then you have to make sure there is a lobe on the cam for a mechanical pump. Running an electric pump is not a big deal these days.

So, after a few bucks, a bunch of forum posts and quite a few hours in the garage and online,

IT LIVES AND BREATHES !!!

A brief synopsis.......
350 +.030
Stock forged pistons .028" below block deck after machining
Chevy LT4 Roller Hot cam (sweet !!)GM roller lifters
Comp Cams pushrods (from another GM application, .040" shorter than stock for proper geometry)
PBM (I think) Stainless roller rockers, 1.5 ratio
Aftermarket aluminum heads 2.02I 1.6E 7/16: Studs (ARP)
Weiand 8150 Street warrior dual plane intake
650 Holly
Hedman long tube headers
Hooker 2 1/4" dual exh w/turbo mufflers
MSD distributor
Accel shorrty plugs
Accel ceramic boot plug wires 9000 series
Serpentine belt engine accessories from the '93 donor engine

It really wouldn't fore on priming gas.
When I filled the carb bowls she lit right off!!

I love it when a plan comes together!

Geez, does she sound SWEET !!!

wait what?

stock forged pistons? in a .030 over block? that wont work.
the specs on that cam include 1.6 rockers. is that a typo?

Well, OK. My terminology is off........
Pistons are flat top w/4 valve indents, .028" below the deck.
I indeed used 1.5 ratio rocker arms..........

Hey Ronnie, what is that upper radiator hose application? I converted mine to serpentine as well and I don't like the hose I'm using. Mines running left of the alternator and over the belt. I like yours better.
Thanks
