Can you drive around with a 700 not plugged in, without hurting it.On cars/trucks with column mounted headlight dimmer switches I have used a floor mounted dimmer switch.
One project car we used one of the cheap push buttons included in line locks that are designed to slip over transmission shifters. He put it on the column shifter lever and wired it thru a latching relay. One push locked it, another unlocked it.
Lots of options, how fancy do you want to get?
I would make the converter work,it's easy. I am of the opinion that you are asking for a premature transmission failure, they make kits I can't remember who makes it,so that you can run without converter lockup,IIRC it is a check valve that redirects oil in 4th gear. I'd just make my converter work. I found the kit, snapshotted the description, that description says to me don't run without lockup, unless you perform additional modifications. Can you drive around with a 700 not plugged in, without hurting it.
I have a 700 in my vette that i just threw together and started driving, forgot it had lockup. Nothing is wired..
You can probably get away with it, as long as you have a good transmission cooler. Most of the heat in a transmission comes from the converter.
It’s pretty easy to make the lockup functional. It helps fuel economy, and make the car a little more comfortable on the highway.
Thats good to know. I didnt even think of it, never had anything with a 700r4 before. Id be interseted in making it work.I would make the converter work,it's easy. I probably could have done this and saved a few bucks I like your idea. Not sure how the brake pedal switch works though. Mine is set to lock up at 55 via the cable/electric switch at the TC so speed sensor only I believeI have the cruise control on-off switch unused since I have no cruise. It would be in my fingertips so using it would be pretty smooth I guess. I was figuring if I could use it for grounding the green manual lockup wire from my TCi 376600 vacuum lockup control. Anyone done this? Is it properly fused? Any other tips, Im not friends with electricity...
