Good morning! I recently acquired my grandfathers 82 gmc high Sierra. Truck runs well but valve covers were leaking. Replaced the gaskets and while I was putting the covers back on I found this tube hanging loose. It has a pc of dry rotted rubber tubing on it. Truck still runs and drives good. Anyone know what this is? It was on the passenger side. Best I can tell it was laying on the dip stick tube.

Looks like it might be part of the vacume feed for the EFE valve on the passenger side exhaust. Part of that run is metal were it passes over exhaust manifold.

LOL.
No clue what that is, other than it looks like some kind of vacuum line.

Welcome, by the way.

That’s it! Thank you. The egr is capped off so I guess I don’t need it.

Is it a copper tube covered with a rubber sleeve?

Does the truck have a factory mechanical oil pressure gauge?

To me it looks like a factory oil pressure tube for a mech gauge but I didn’t think 81+ had mech gauges.

FYI- EFE and EGR are 2 separate emission devices.

The EFE is the little flapper valve in the exhaust manifold. Later ones take vacuum to close the valve, so if that is the hose yours should be in the open position and you are good- well, other than a vacuum leak if the other side is not plugged .

Mine looks like this one :

It's either what 86 SCOTTS said, or possibly the vacuum tube from the Auto Trans Vac Modulator. It's not from a Th350 for sure cuz it would be longer than that.
