What is everyone's go to for converting rusty frames nice looking frames

Started looking into repainting or coating my frame since I'll have the bed of replacing tanks. Rust isn't very bad nothing hitting it with a cupped wire wheel and a wipe of alcohol won't fix. With so many options out there I'm feel like I'm drowning in options and probably bad advice. Its been a long time since I painted anything like this. And would prefer to use a brush. Know that after I get the bulk rust off I want to use some type of converter and primer. Then a couple coats of paint or frame specific coating. Anyone feel like pointing a new guy in the right direction of what actually works in the long run?

I see alot of guys on here using POR 15 on bare clean frames... im not sure as i havent done this but im sure theres many guys that can chime in.

After wire brushing I used Osphos, a rust converter, then a self etching primer and some rattle can semi gloss black paint.
It's been two years and still looks good.

I am just trying to get her on the road with a very tight budget, I went with corroseal for a converter and brushed on rustoleum gloss black. Looks fine and should last a few years.

I know anything to do with paint isn't cheap. If I can get away with being under $300 doing frame and axle I'd be happy. Haven't looked into what it would take to lift the cab to get to the top surfaces of the frame to prep and paint them under the cab.

Whatever you do, make sure to use a rust converter.

The only proper fix is elbow grease and grinding cutting and patching, or some kind of blasting equipment and then cutting and patching.. Anything else is just a rusty spot turning into a hole with paint on it while it waits to be fixed.

Same here with the Ospho, works wonders and ready to paint after 24 hours. I did the manifolds on the 2006 LS and hit them with extreme high heat silver Rustoleum and I don't see flaking anywhere. Engine has been on the road for going on 6 months.

No exp with the Ospho method, but POR15 is designed to be use on light surface rust a rusty flaking frame obviously the por will come off with the rust. If you wire wheel the frame down rust free and put por15 on it will flake it off as its not designed for clean metal it is doing it on my vette, on my friends 78 malibu and another friends 84 Pontiac Parisenne.

POR is great. I’ve used it on a few frames. Nice finish, it does level out. But it doesn’t have any UV protectant in it and will fade in the sun. If your going to top coat it, spray on some primer before it dries and get a chemical bond because sanding it for the mechanical bond is near impossible.

Eastwood rust encapsulater works well. spray lays down better than brush but you are not building a show truck and with a lot of time and patience you will end up with a nice job.
