custom door handles

These were made by an oldtimer friend of mine. 85 years old. Custom. Teak. Oiled, smell great and fit perfectly. I'm sure his wife would love to see him busy making these all Winter up in his shop if anyone would like a set.
Thanx

Replaced the adjustable vacuum can on my HEI....

Turned out I must have been really drunk when I set the timing. Possibly drunk for the last three years.

I put some advance limiters in the dizzy, and re-curved the distributor with a light spring and a medium spring, and now have base timing of 12°, full 34° at 3000rpm, and I removed the limiter on the vac can, so I'm getting 18° of vacuum advance off the manifold. Seems to be working again. A lot less base timing than before, so the idle is plenty choppy.

In other news.....

Hauled my lathe and my milling machine into the shop this weekend.

My 90 1500 4x4 has been knocking and pinging like an old Benz diesel. Under and load it sounded like crap and ran the same. Headed out to the lake in western PA last weekend it couldn't climb the hills eas of state college and I almost caused a pileup as it went from 75 on flat ground to 45 half way up. On flat ground it flies but dies up steep hills. Friends have been telling me about sea foam to clear the carbon out. With the help of a buddy we ran a can through a vac port and she smoked pretty good. I ran it till the smoking stopped and let it sit overnight. Then I put a can into 1/4 tank and ran it through. I must say the pinging had been reduced, not 100%, and had much better throttle response. Only problem is I found a have head gasket leak? That caused the fluid to get into the exhaust and smoke. It eventually stopped. Will run more through the tank and go attack that hill again for a true test.

I would say it has improved the performance. I improved one problem but found another.

I'd check the timing for sure. Seafoam isn't a bad idea, but carbon build up isn't your problem for this issue.

I hear you. Made a service appointment at the local Chevy dealer to look at it and the leaking transmission. My driveway looks like crap and my truck needs Depends.

Hell, I'd love a set if they're not too expensive!

He's probably take $100 a set but I'd love to see him get $150. They gotta be worth at least that much. I gave him the wood and some old antique tools he wanted in trade. They are VERY cool. Love em !!!

Ouch dealer $$$$!

Our local dealer said they didn't want to touch anything older than about 2006.

I was floored. Obviously no need to use them for anything ever again, but seriously...

Probably because they don't have any parts anymore, and nobody there knows how to work on the truck, LOL..

I am taking it to the dealer because service said they can work on the 350 TBI. Also need the trans leak fixed. Hoping they can set it up to stop the constant detonation.
