If it's the TV cable causing it, then the cable is much to tight. I'd suspect the governor to be hung up or stuck before I'd expect the TV cable to be the problem. Governor should be on the driver side at the rear of the transmisison under a round cover. Tap that cover off, pull the governor off and inspect the plastic gear and make sure the valve inside is moving loosly.

Do you mean the kickdown linkage? If so:

I would disconnect the cable at the transmission and see if the transmission shifts into higher gears.

If it won't shift out of fist with the cable disconnected, then the cable is not the problem.

This will destroy a 700r4. They have a TV cable it is not a kick down cable. It is a throttle valve cable. It controls the line pressure inside the transmission.

You have to have the TV cable is about 99 percent accurate. You could go with a constant pressure valve body, more money, more trouble, not as durable in the long run,but doable.
You will, destroy a 700r4 running it with no TV cable, incorrectly adjusted TV cable,or incorrect geometry on the TV cable. It's not a might,it's a you will.

Down load and read this. Did you put a factory Qjet for a 700 r4 back on with original brackets?
You have no idea how many times I've heard, yea I just changed the carb and manifold a week ago and then the transmission went out. Not having any clue, that their actions took the transmission out.

I had a demon 750 cfm double pumper carburetor when i got the truck and then i put on an edelbrock avs2 and then i had too much fuel pressure going through that one and blew it up so i put a normal edelbrock carb on

If your transmission is indeed shot, and you plan to swap it out rather than repair it, then I recommend finishing it off. You know, pour salt water down its gullet and then do burnouts on the rev limiter, or find out how fast you can go while slamming it into park without breaking the trans. Oooooo - crank it up to 5K on the tach and then put it into reverse with the brake peddle to the floor. Maybe drain the trans fluid (by shooting a hole in the pan) and then floor it in D and see how long it takes for smoke to come out of the filler tube. Try not to break other parts of course, but generally speaking, the trans is the weak link (with any luck).

Its like when I scrap a rig. By the time I'm done with the car, the scrapper can not stop laughing his ass off while he was winching (what is left of the car) up onto the tow truck.

If its going out, let it go out in style.

Obviously with any transmission failure, you want to flush the cooler lines, and replace the tranny cooler. Aftermarket coolers are cheap and easy to install.

This us a great idea! let's see how much trash we can get in the cooler and lines. Maybe you can even lock the transmission up,and crack your flex plate or egg out a spider gear doing neutral drops.

I'm trying to get into my memory bank, I'm rusty, but I'm thinking your transmission has a broken intermediate roller clutch and you've lost 2nd gear. If it it takes off, won't shift and then the rpm's go way up, you've lost 2nd gear. @NickTransmissions would know for sure.

And this is assuming a 700r4, if it's a Th350, it could be a vac line off the modulator, or the vac modulator or hung up modulator valve, Oh and still the governor, but you say the RPMS go up, this tells me it's TRYING to shift as it should, but it's hunting for 2nd that's not there due to broken parts.
