Turbo 400?

I have an 85 c10 long box with a 350 (blew up the 305....whoops) and the current tranny I'm not sure cause I've never really looked it has 240 000 on the tranny and maybe only 5000 on the motor I want to make it a quarter mile truck nothing outrages but maybe hotter cam vortech heads a 600 holly and maybe a bottle. I have 98% of it planned out in my head the one thing I'm jot sure of is the tranny I've been hearing good this about turbo 400's but I have some questions (btw I do plan on overdrive) would this be the best tranny for it? And could it hook up to the stock linkage so if my dad wants to drive it he doesn't have a conniption

The TH-400 is a pretty beefy transmission but it's only a 3 speed. To get the overdrive you would either have to buy a gear vendors overdrive unit or go with a different transmission all together. It sounds like you would be driving it on the street as well as the occasional track run. Am I correct?

If you want an overdrive that's just as strong as a TH400, look into the 4L80E. They are pretty pricey, and require a computer controller to run them, but they are very beefy.

If you have the OEM trans it should be a 700r4 with OD. But, it's common that the 700r4 gets swapped out for the Th350. If all your doing is a Vortec heads, a mild cam and 600cfm vac secondary carb, I'd stick with the Th350. The Th400 is stronger, but the Th350 isn't bad either and with a few upgrades it can hold up to a mild street motor. If you're going to spray it or any other snail type looking adder, then I'd consider the Th400.

If it currently has the 700R4, You might want to consider uprating that one, if it is not going to be a real serious dragster.

Is that still working good Nick? Have you played with the controller anymore for some custom shifts and shift points?
