Tire and wheel change

Grit, I thought the wheels were ok, not the best ride but I figured MTs what do you want. When I rotated fronts to back, the vibration started. I'm sure I could drive it a few thousand miles and they would round out, but I only drive it about 3K miles a year. I could rotate them back sure but the cupping won't get better.

So is the problem out of round, not balanced, or just don’t like the noise from the cupped treads?

Bucket, reading the data on the manufacturer site. Maybe it just a suggestion, I don't know if it's gospel and very bad things could happen. I don't mind pushing the envelope when I have to, not sure I need to in this case.

I'm surprised it said the minimum rim width was wider than 6.5". Don't take that as gospel, it's just a safe "don't sue us" recommendaction.

Your current wheels are probably fine though. Aftermarket steel rims often have some runout, so don't be alarmed by that. Your factory 15's probably have a fair amount of runout too.

Way out of round. When they put it on the road force balancer I could see how out of shape it was. They told me balancing it would be useless. I'm putting the money towards new tires and hope the 16" rims are good. I ordered the Toyo Open Country AT3. I thought they looked good and came well recommended. I was going to get the Michelin Defender like I have on my Grand Cherokee, but they are too car like.

Imho, it doesn't matter. A decent tire shop should have been willing to balance them and see if you were happy with it. On a full size, solid axle 4x4, you'd be surprised how out-of-round a set of tires can be and still drive nice.

I'm not trying to harp, I just hate people being tricked into spending money that they need to. That's not to say you were duped. Just the age of the tires alone is enough to make a lot of people uncomfortable, and that's understandable.

If you match mount the tires to the wheels you can probably get the out of balance way further down to a normal degree of balancing
as well as checking your hub surface for run out and shimming or clocking the wheel appropiately.

It wasnt if there was nothing that could be done, but the labor would have put it a lot more than 80 so there is that.

Keeping the old tires and selling on marketplace. They are still good for someone. Same with the stock rims and hubcaps.

Probably fair assumption with a truck that pristine.

I'm not trying to pester him... just wondering. And I don't always assume good body work, paint and clean interior means no twisty. Some goys put a lot of work in their builds and still work the trucks pretty hard. My mistake is seeing every square working and playing pretty hard, and that just comes from my relationship with driving trucks,earning how to 4x in BC back in the 70s.

Honestly I was 'worried' about the OP's fenders getting gorked... from my mental images burned deep from doing just that myself, and
to witness brothers carnage and tears too.
I fully realize there are many many places these trucks can be used and they don't all require long travel and crossover D60s.

When I see a killer square 2x that's slammed the first though comes to my mind is "oh I'd love to toss that cab onto a 4x ad lift it to
the Glory of God! But since I've been here for years I'm just beginning to appreciate slammed trucks. I'm working on it.

Match mount tires, that sounds like the line from Days of Thunder. Tom Cruise was able to drive faster cause of those special match tires!

I wasn’t trying to pry either but gather why they were bad.
Cooper AT3 are good tires, at least the ones I had. And probably a little better in the sand than the mudders.

oH lol match mount is matching the high spot of runout on the wheel to the low spot on the tire to bring the assembly much closer to having little runout and balance should be easier/less complex to achieve.
