I recently aquired a timing light, to try and get my square all dialed in good. I wanted to see how close or far it was off the mark....

The light I got was standard (battery terminal connections, and hook for number 1 plug wire..)

Hooked it up, marked the timing line with chalk and such... fired it up, and I was nowhere near the mark....????? Had to retard the heck out of it just to barely see the line register. Whats up with that?

I read through my Chilton's, and there was mention of another type of timing light set up.. since my truck has HEI... no vacuum advance pods to disconnect.....

Please enlighten me

You might have to disconnect a advance wire going to the computer, check you emissions label.

I hear ya.. me too, was working out at Morning Star, but season ended in October.

I'll hit you up.. figured it was something like that, it's really not that big of a deal, seeings that I don't have to smog it this year (whew):waytogo:

My dad picked this gun up for $10 at a yard sale, and thought I'd try it out. I'm Old School, I just loosen the dizzy up, and twist it till she runs smooth and lock her down.. same with the carb adjustments... all by feel and sound.

Thats cool, just an fyi, the fuel solenoid on that carb is supposed to be set with a dwell meter(which I be havin), and factory timing Is 4* btdc.
