It's got the small egg crate openings. Owner told me truck is a 79, no big deal, grates are swapped all the time.

It interests me as this is one of my loggers. He just got this c30 as a work truck , and could care less about this stuff. He said he swap with me for my 79 I had redone . He really gets better deal cause he gets a redone grill, I would only swap for the 80 correct grill.

My question, is this one had a chrome Chevy bowtie sticker he peeled off, I was wondering about the holes for the yellow bowtie. There don't look like holes on the bowtie area to mount the bowtie that is on my grille. Was there a lower trim model that didn't come with that bowtie option like one mine? And I imagine it's just as simple as drilling the holes for the mounting studs?

The grill is correct for 79 and 80, but I think 80 Silverados had chrome on the tops of the grill bars. I got this picture for an 80 K5 Silverado from Bring a Trailer. Most of the the stuff on there is pretty original. The Bowtie is bolted on top of the grill. Base models usually had the foil Bowtie.

That answers it. This is a base model. I'm thinking you can drill that base for the bowtie? But 80 was the only year I thought with that "egg crate " or whatever they call the smaller openings. That pic I know is an 80 cause of the single square headlights and large parking lights contained in the same trim bezel. My truck is a Silverado.

To complicate matters, in 80 they sold trucks with round or square headlights.

I was wrong. 1979 did not have the egg crate grill, I just looked at a sales brochure. I think only Silverados got the parking/headlights you have. I had an '80 C20 3+3. It was a Scottsdale with Silverado trim and had round headlight with standard parking lights like this.

Yep. The base model was round. And the sport option and Silverado came with single squares.

So I think the consensus is that the grill in my original pic is an 80. Now, is that bowtie pedestal the same, but just lacks holes to mount the gold bowtie.

1980 had round headlights and later in the same year they came out with square headlights.

The Silverado in 1980 had the rectangular headlights.
It is listed as standard equipment in the Silverado interior package on page 12 of the 1980 Showroom brochure.

Truck on left is my new at the time 1980 and rectangular headlights.
My 1979 in the middle and my 1977 on the right.
Second pic shows my 79 Silverado grille. Chromed grille was an option in 79.

I looked at the grill again yesterday. It is I know an 80 grill. Truck was a July 79 production truck so the grill was a replacement.

Although I'd like that grill to make mine a correct 80 grill. I looked closer and several of the mounting tabs are broken or cracked and it is held to the center with zip ties.

The grill I have, has all it's tabs in tact. Just is missing the top corner cross pieces.

I may still swap him, but maybe see if he would let me put an aftermarket grill in for that one. I'll put it in the shed to work on one day maybe?
