Hello everybody. The previous owner has plugged two lines in the TBI throttle body of my 87 truck. See those two blue caps. Can somebody tell me what these are and what do I need to do to put it back the way it should be? Thank you for your help.

My guess is that are vacuum lines and I just need to connect them, correct?

Looks to be the lines for the EGR. You can easily return it to the way it should be but there may be a reason it was done. Once you reconnect it you may need to do some trouble shooting of the EGR system.

Thanks. This truck was a barn find and the previous owner put it back on the road on a budget. I want to put it back the way it is supposed to be. I need to understand how this system works so I can troubleshoot it, if needed. And I think you' re correct, he did I it probably to get it to run....

It's worth pointing out there are a couple of different egr systems in use and you need to verify which type you have.

Quote from the thread on ChevyTalk: "Howdy, first question from me would be, does your EGR solenoid match the one in the pictures - exactly? Or is it larger, with cooling fins? If it's the latter, you have a port EGR system and this troubleshooting guide does not apply."

The later port style on my '89 has the vac lines running differently from the ones in the link. You can see the difference between the early egr solenoid paolotvl posted above and the finned type below.

The lower vac line on this type of solenoid can be seen routed below the green electrical connector and attached at the front of the throttle body.

The curious thing is paolotvl has an '87 and Georgeb's diagram is for an '87, but the diagram appears to show the vac line routing for a port style egr and doesn't indicate the open port as shown in the ChevyTalk link.

So, I don't need to connect the two end (currently plugged) together?

I noticed the PO's pic shows torx screws holding the valve covers. Original motor? What year did they do that?

Can't tell from your pic, does your egr solenoid have three ports (two on the back and one on the front) like this?

If it looks like this one that's the way I'd hook it up.
