So I currently have the original rear end on my 86 C10, an open 3.08 (which is whining increasingly louder). I was wondering if say I happened upon a ring/pinion/lsd setup out of a much newer truck/SUV at a salvage yard, could I just swap them over? I'm seeing center chunks out of 02s and such, 3.73 lsd for $350 or so. Just didn't know and was curious.

believe the 88-95 10 bolts are still the same width and all as the earlier 10 bolts. remember last they are considered 8.6 vs 8.5 but still same ole same ole. if you open one up make sure it is good working order. no teeth missing, no leaking from the axle seals or pinion seal. drive shafts should still bolt up but that I do not know for sure.

just beware of used stuff from a junkyard. I just picked up a free 8.5 10 bolt Wednesday and I opened up and there was a spider gear missing and found it in pieces in the case. not bad for a freebie.
