Steering column swap on the 79 Scottsdale.

So on the farm in a different weed patch we have a 1989 silverado 1500 and i was going to see if the tires and rims were any better (which they are not) i noticed i rly like the seat in there (possible swap) but much more than that i want that steering column, the old scottsdale aint got tilt and im 6'4" 225lbs. I know that column has other stuff on it too like cruise but can this swap be done?

That is likely a question for our retrofit guru, RetroC10Sport. He's into both Squares and GMT400's among things including wear..nevermind that. He's know his ****, so incase he misses your thread, I'll send him a link to your thread.

GMT400 column won't work in a square unfortunately, too many differences.

There was a GMT400 seat in a 1980 stepside (that had a tach cluster too, but it was so roached, it stayed there) and I looked at it today, looks like the used the original bench seat mounts.

Yea suprising that seat looks clean and solid but down side its gray and the square is red and black.

So back on this idea, can i swap steering wheel's????? i just can't get useto that old big skinny thing. I wrap my gangly fingers around it like 4 times.

If you're saying you want to swap to the GMT 400 4 spoke steering wheel, yes it swaps to the SB column.

The 4 spoke GMT400 does not. 95 was first year for driver side Air bag, 97 was first year for passenger side air bag. Pull it on the same way as you do a Square body column. With a steering wheel or harmonic balance puller.

My personal favorite steering wheel is the mid 90's caviler or lumina ones. they fit right on to and have alot better cushion on them.

I had a 4 spoke on my truck, no problems. Didn't even need a steering wheel puller.

Lol nice, but my 91 swap went perfect i love it. Way better. Next task is to build a battery box cus today i found my battery laying on its side down on the frame rail The old one looks like acid did it in over the years.

Retro...didn't you put a 4 spoke gmt400 wheel in the square you just sold?

I'm not big on the Cavi wheel for some reason.

Here is a 4 spoke mounted in a 74. Just bolts on no modification needed.
