As the title states, I’m rebuilding the column that’s going in my 81 GMC. It’s all back together, ready for some paint. My question, is there a deal or dust boot to keep crud out of the lower bearing? I took apart 3 different columns from various year GM trucks, all the bearings were dry of grease, and none had anything covering the bearing. I find it had to believe all 3 are missing the same part, and equally had to believe the bearing is open to the elements. Thanks!!

just installed one on the tilt column I haven't put in yet. I added grease to the bearing because there was none to be found. Normal or is it supposed to be dry? Can't imagine dry.

If it’s the one I’m thinking it is it was from an 89 less time and mileage and element exposure do to the year. Lol

The one in my 79 was locked up pretty good, luckily the steering shaft was able to turn inside the race so it still could be steered when moving around
