97 K1500 350 vortec

2 year old die hard battery and less than year old Pro Start Alternator.

My starter has been dragging since I got this truck end of april last year. Now it drags from time to time. But last I started hearing a funny from the starter like its not disengaging right away cause it makes a weird spinning noise for couple seconds.

I'm pretty sure this a starter going bad. Just thought I'd ask about the funny noise.

Yes they can be shimmed

Well the starter on 96 vortec in my 90 C2500 uses the same starter and it doesnt do it. Its not shimmed either.

Dave some starters need shims some dont, seems like reman starters need shims in spurts. Put a few on and there fine then all of the sudden the next 5 or 6 will have to be shimmed.

if thats what your problem is you could damage your flexplate, better fix it or you will be pulling the tranny

Everyone heard it crank says its the starter. Its sounds the battery is low at when cranking too. I know it drags more on short stops.

All my connections are tight. According the carfax before I the truck the last time starter was replaced was at 32,700 miles. I have 114,*** on it now.

My blazer started doing this again too. The slow starter bit.

First time, I put an Optima battery in it and cleaned up the ground on the engine block and it's been fine for 2 years. May need to clean the grounds again.

My 97 has 284,000 miles and the starter is just now dragging. I keep waiting for the pig to die but it won't. Seems like you should get more than 80,000 miles out of one.

Time to change the starter. Now when the starter cranks the it goes click, click, click.click while cranking. Bunch of short clicks too.

when you say it has a spinning sound or like a buzz and it's doing nothing that's the appendix or bendix or whatever it is in the solenoid going bad and when it goes click click click it's the solenoid bad, you can buy one for like $16 and change it and that starter work fine again.

It spinning while making the click click click sound.

New Solonoid is $50 bucks and nobody in town has one. So going with a gear reduction starter.
