I would like to find these used parts, especially #1 and #5. I think the factory riveted #6 and #7 to #1.

I needed the the cross bar parts (#1, #6, #7) and ended up getting them off a truck at the pick and pull near San Antonio.

I also recently purchased new parts #4 and #5 from LMC, and found that the new #5 was poorly made/unusable.

#5 has a threaded insert inside that is made of plastic, and the outer metal shell (with a hole in it for your lug wrench handle) is molded around it. However, the plastic and metal were not attached properly, and as soon I tried to thread it on the brand new #4, the metal shell started slipping around the insert and it could not be tightened. I had to go back to using a couple large washers and a regular nut.

#5 is certainly no great feat of engineering. The goal was to provide a fastener that could be released using the lug handle, and also provided a bit of a "quick release" feature (by aligning the loop with the slot in #1). You are probably further ahead just using the washers and nuts, especially if you carry proper tools with you for changing a tire.

Most of my nearby junkyards are gone, and the nearest one has only one squarebody left with almost no usable parts left on it.

I may end up ordering 1, 6, and 7 from LMC and using regular bolts and nuts.

Don't know why some previous owner removed the carrier.:mad: Probably the same moron who used bailing wire to hold up an exhaust pipe, and who spray painted the engine right over dirt and grease.

Are the bolts that hold up the large bracket 3/8"? And how long are they? I can get up to 8" locally. My spare will probably be a 235, so I may need 10" or more.

Just hate to pay LMC $12.95 and $16.95, and then have them be too short for a 235 tire.

I purchased a used one for my K30. It was off a 3/4 ton with all the hardware. Both bolts are 7/16" diameter and 12 3/4" long to the shoulder of the bolt. It fits my stock 235 spare. Be aware that part #6's location varies depending if the rim is a 15 or 16" diameter.

FYI - I have dual exhaust and a draw-tite trailer hitch, and getting that spare tire on the carrier and properly under the truck is PIA job. Its wedged up against the hitch crossbar, so you can't slide it to the rear as much as you could without the hitch, and it just clears the exhaust turn downs on each side by about 1/2". Based on where the old factory exhaust hanger is on one side, I think the regular factory exhaust pipes might have turned out sooner and cleared the tire better.

Thanks guys. Looks like 7/16 bolts are available up to 12" at least.

Re tailpipe clearance, I was wondering about that. My pipes are from a kit and I may have to modify them. Oh, well.:rolleyes:

Always tricky with dual exhaust. Most with duals and the spare tire carrier opt to have side exits

you can have all mine off my 87 as soon as I take it down. I am putting in a gas tank in its place
