See the photo. Is fixing this as easy as replacing the seal around the shaft? I ended up spending a whole $15 on a new seal and the special tool to pull the old on at Napa. Should get those next week.

I'm just not sure if that's the real issue or if something else is going on here. The fluid I see is a drip or two off the shaft itself. And I believe it runs back to the pan bolts in the second picture. The other side is clean and clear.

Could just be a pan gasket leakage,it is common.

I was thinking that as well. But last time I replaced it I used a very nice lube locker gasket and a good deep pan. It doesent lose much (havent had to put any fluid in) which is why I'm leaning more toward the shaft seal.

Edit: I guess for $15 I can try it and see what I get.

I’ve done the shaft seal on a 200-4R, and it was easy. Fixed the leak, but the shaft was wet with fluid so it was a pretty ironclad diagnosis. If it’s leaning in the direction of the pan, makes sense that it would still be leaking without the wet shaft and the small puddle right below.

I'll keep it as is until I get those parts and I'll investigate more while pulling that thing out. Worst case I'll order another lube locker gasket, filter and fluid and just change the fluid after the hot months are over and change the gasket while I'm at it.

From what i can tell without removing anything I believe I see fluid on the shaft (under the hold nut) and when I clean the "fork" off, the drop of fluid comes back after some time.

After I get this small leak done, I'll have to start looking at my one or two weeping core plugs, then onto the small leak from the poorly sealed transfer case :banghead: thing is killing me slowly.

FWIW, I got the same tool and seal from NAPA and it worked like a charm. Inexpensive and easy!....once anyway

Make sure you file the edges smooth where the linkage bolts on. The shift bracket can raise some rough edges in on the shaft.

Great thread y’all! Got my tool and parts from Classic Transmission Solutions. great folks. 20 minutes and shaft seal was done. Waiting to see if I got the leak or it is the pan seeping after all. Went ahead and put Lokar ACA 1800 new shift linkage in while we were at it. Straight forward installation however needed the longer 26” arm. Included 21” arm to short for some reason. Speedway motors had it and it was here in 2 days. All in all nice strong firm shift control now.
