Can someone direct me to a good pinstriping tape that actually will stick? My Silverado trim has the black on it and some of the color has faded off. I thinking taping it off and repainting will be quite the ordeal. I ordered some penstripe off Amazon and it is junk - doesn't even stick even after I cleaned the application area with acetone.

Thanks

Go to a decal shop, they’ll usually lead you in the right direction

3M, Trim Brite and Avery are all pretty good.

Hello Fellow Square Body Peeps -

Still working on my '78, down to tailgate, spraying on bedliner, and exterior trim - just getting around to the trim .

Question #1 - My trim has oxidized - no surprise there for a 44 year old truck. I would really appreciate some expert advice on how to bring the luster back to my trim and keep it looking nice.

Question #2 - I started this thread asking about trim pinstripe. After further investigating, at some point there was black pinstripe placed over the original painted black stripe in it. If I decided to paint it, how do i prep and what do i use to paint it. Or........should I just use a quality pinstripe and if so, what width? I measured the stripe to be 3/8", but I cannot find quality 5/8"........any suggestions??

Thanks for the help as always.

The trim is aluminum if I'm not mistaken. Question is, is it anodized? I believe so.
There's a thread about tailgate bands, above. That will likely be what you want to do. But I'd first try polishing it with compound and a rotary ball/pad.
Note I tried sanding off anodizing once....DON'T! It just messed the piece up.

Try using a very fine Scotchbrite pad first, then some Never Dull on the aluminum

If you want to paint the inset color again, just mask it off, lightly scuff it with a scotchbrite pad, then spray it.

Applying WD-40 to the anodized aluminum trim will make it look much better, but it doesn't last long.
