I have an 84 Sierra 2500 that is needing shocks, front and rear. I bought a set off Rock Auto a few years back, but they are smaller in diameter than what came off. They seem to work ok, but what do you all recommend for a daily driver, that will see a rough dirt road once in awhile. No heavy loads or trailer pulling either.

Bilstein all day, every day.
Don't know if they make 5100 series for these. if not, I believe the 4600 is the same without the height adjustablilty. And they're yellow vs. silver.

Bilstein or KYB. Bilstein is top of the shelf. KYB best value for money.

I picked up KYB mono max shocks from summit racing for a good price and have been running them on my v2500 burb for over a year now. I like them alot. I drive mostly on the street and occasionally on the outer beach sand trails around my area. Does well on both

Can never go wrong with Bilstein they rock and have sustained their quality over the years unlike so many others... Now when there is nothing but the best for you're SquareJaw and you're feeling really spendy nothing beats FOX period... 2.0's for most of our squares are $199 a piece and after that you get into remote resi versions that are super expensive and not necessary unless you are a serious off roader or building a show truck, and you better not be off roading your square

Side note if you want FOX contact ORD with your truck specs they will tell you the exact shocks you need... Very helpful...

I’m done with cheap shocks. They end up overheating on extended fire roads or any off-roading at speed. These are rebuildable and made in USA. Quality and ability to customize is above King or Fox, but pricey. About $4k a set. Buy once, cry once. Company is ADS. This picture is for the ones on one of my Rams. I’m at the office and don’t have a picture of the ones on the square.

If you want something cheaper, I believe even the Fox 2.0s are rebuildable, but they will overheat and cook quickly off-road. Ask me how I know.

The shock body on a “standard” will be larger than the monotube high pressure nitrogen charged. The nitrogen charged Bilstein will be firmer more controlled.

I've had Monroes, Edelbrock, Bilstein's and Ranchos on my trucks.
Monroe Gas Magnums are pure junk even though they're made in USA. They basically perform like worn out shocks when they're brand new. Very little damping.
I tried Edelbrock Performers IAS
once on my C20 front, and after a few miles one of them literally broke off at the bottom mount.
Bilstein B6 (yellow) on C20 & Blazer are excellent shocks, very high quality and they last forever. But they provide a very harsh ride.
By far the best I've ever used are the Rancho RS9000XLs (on V2500 Suburban). Fully adjustable. Unbelievable ride and damping, and great quality.
The 5000 series not so much.
I have KYB Gas-a-Just on one of my cars. They're a good shock but also quite harsh. Good for handling.
My two cents.
