Sealing Evaporator core box

Im replacing the evaporator core and wanted to know what you guys used to seal the box back up especially aound the tube exits and against the firewall

I used Sikaflex 1A caulk on mine for that and as a seam sealer.

The factory applied sealant is a 3M product called Strip-Calk (the misspelling is intentional). Comes in a box of 60 strips X one foot:

Available at most auto parts stores. For example, Napa carries it as Part Number: MMM 08578. Like $28.

It can be easily shaped to the contours of the box and will stay firmly in place during installation.

This is also a great product to seal the gaps between the evap box and liquid/vapor lines. Much neater than silicone. It can be formed into rings and stuffed into the gaps - usually takes 2 rings.


NOTE: Whichever product you ultimately choose, when you do the box-to-firewall sealant don't forget to apply a strip to the face of the division plate that separates the blower suction/discharge sides:
