I have bought $486 worth of headers at Summit Racing for $150. Is anyone using Sanderson BB8-P big block headers on your truck. I'd like to see pictures please. Do you guys have starter or oil filter clearance issues? The truck has a factory engine oil cooler. Tia.

I’m running BB8’s in my 91 Blazer, I had no clearance or fitment issues. I don’t have an oil cooler but I do run a 2qt oil filter (not the Fram in the pic) and have plenty of room, I also run a mini starter and a hydraulic clutch. I’m using Off Road Design comp motor mounts which are less bulky than the factory style.

There is a guy on another forum the has BB8’s on his 4wd converted R30 and he had a few small clearance problems; around the frame rail, some part of the factory style motor mount and then the widest part of the bellhousing (first a 700 then a 4l80e).

How much clearance between the headers and oil filter do you have? I had Summit Racing full length headers that was right on the oil filter and dented it. Just want to make sure I can change the filter without issues.

There’s good clearance. I’ll go take a pic in a few minutes.

It might be hard to tell but there about 1/2” clearance between the collector and filter.

@86burban I only say this because of the potential fitment issues I posted but if you decide you don't want to use those headers holler at me I may be interested.

Also, the info on the 4wd R30 I mentioned is on CK5.com posted by "mrk5".

I'm saving up to have an exhaust shop install them. I'll let you know.

Were you able to keep your stock spark plugs and are they able to be changed without interference?

Yes, I run regular Autolite 26 plugs and they’re easy to change. Most of my plug wire boots clear fine but I have 1 that touches a tube, they are Taylor 409 wires with 45 degree boots. The plug wires are 10.5mm so everything about them is big, regular 8mm may not have any issues.

Also, I’m running 70’s oval port 781 casting heads. I don’t think later peanut ports change much relative to plugs vs headers, aftermarket heads are all over the place depending on what you buy.

I’ll get you a shot when I get home of the oil pan oil filter and starter but zero clearance issues and I’m running an 8 quart Champ “winged” pan….

@Fastduramax really cool engine and it looks great! I love my Sanderson's but, honestly, I would have thought they (being 1-7/8") would be a little small for the 572.
