Forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse but couldn't seem to find similar threads...I'm preparing to rebuild a steering gear from an 87 3/4-ton 4x4 and wondering how many special tools are actually needed for the process?

The Shop Manual shows a bunch of J-number special tools used to remove and install seals and bearings but wondering how many are actually needed or something common can be used in their place? Any links to videos etc. that would show the process would be helpful as well. Thanks for the help!

Do a search on the forum. When I was resealing mine, I found a few detailed posts. Vince (Vbb199 had a very detailed write up iirc).

YouTube has all kinds of videos on rebuilding Saginaw steering boxes. The only "special" tool needed would be a spanner wrench but you can use a needle nose pliers instead. Snap ring pliers are needed as well.
