Stupid question I’m sure but……

just recieved Speedo cable housing kit with an O ring for the housing , a new rubber seal for inside the cable and a “retaining ring”. Where the hell does the ring go?!anyone got a picture?

The only retaining ring I can think of would go onto the back of the speedometer itself. Don't have a picture handy.

I have been wrong before.

The large o ring obviously goes around the speedo gear housing. The smaller rubber seal goes inside the smaller end of the housing and seals the speedo gear to prevent fluid leaking around the gear. The metal snap ring prevents the seal from walking out of the housing.

You can double up the smaller rubber seals. Make sure the end of the speedo gear shaft isn’t chewed up. I’ll never understand how soft rubber can cut a groove in axles, harmonic balancers, but it happens.
