Not necessarily the cheapest, my vote is a Detroit Truetrac. Smooth everyday driving and the the ability to put two black lines on the pavement when desired. Some type of traction control is also required.

Cheapest is going to be a junkyard G80 Gov-Lok, and that will be an diff. explosion waiting in the wings. You’ll almost certainly have to spend more to reap the benefits. I like the idea of the TrueTrac if you do anticipate frequent practical use if not daily driving, errands, lots of light cruising, etc. If it’s going to be a Saturday night chick magnet exclusively and making passes at the local strip, I think you’d be happier with positraction over the long haul.

The cheapest method is to weld up what you have. Obviously though, that's a terrible option for the street. Unless you don't need to make sharp turns without everyone looking at you because your tires are squealing, or you don't care how long your tires last.
