Yes...I'm wondering if something happened to the column, I dropped the column in order to get the turn signal switch wiring out.

I think as Bucket stated I'm missing the plastic "dust cover" so maybe that's why it looks like a large gap. This truck has all kind of mysteries/missing parts
That won't keep the wheel from bottoming out where its supposed to

Dont know if this would cause this, but Did you replace canceling cam? There's 2 different ones.

True, but if it's missing, it makes the gap look larger and more unsightly.

If the wrong one was installed, the lock plate wouldn't have fit. I found that one out the hard way, lol

When I initially took it apart there was no snap ring or cancel cam..the steering gap was normal. Since I've replaced those parts now gives me the large gap. With steering wheel off I can move the steering shaft in and out about a .25in.

Post #22. If the hub is truly bottomed on the splines on the shaft I would think the shaft might have moved. Check under the hood to see if the shaft is fully engaged in the coupler. Maybe it separated slightly when you pulled the wheel off? That would be worrisome as it would pose a serious safety hazard waiting to happen.

I removed the 2 nuts that hold the column bracket to the dash and "lowered" the column.
Squareroot - will check that coupler out, read in another thread someone suggested that. Just seems like the wheel needs to go another .25 or on the splines.

Thanks for quick responses/ideas
