Had a no start condition on my 85 C10, replaced mechanical fuel pump. Removed ignition coil for a visual. Looks brand new. Put it back in. As I attempted to connect negative battery cable I noticed some arching I continued. Fusible link at junction block started smoking. I quickly disconnected battery. Today I repaired the link with some 12 gauge wire. Still arching when connecting battery cable.

Do not compromise the wiring system by using wire in place of fusible link. Address that first or you'll burn your harness and/or truck down.

Check wiring to the starter. I'm sure there's a melted mess behind the passenger side of the block.

Thanks everyone. Everything was fine 4 days ago when I took my truck for a drive. Then all of a sudden, it did not start. I’ll start tracing some wires tomorrow see what I can find…

That harness sounds like the culprit.

It's also possible a diode has shorted in the alternator. Disconnect the battery wire from the back of the alternator and see if the short goes away
