So long story short I’m working on the Interior of my 89, Blazer. Replaced gauges and bulbs, new dash pad and am putting everything back together. I have a couple of questions...
How do I reconnect the gear shift indicator? Im not sure where I attach the clip to on the steering column.
Does anyone know what the small led under the steering column is?

Led under the column likely an add on. Shift indicator clips on the shifter rotating part of the column. For me clipping it in while in drive position tend to work better than using park position.

By LED, I wonder if he is referring to the one that illuminates the ashtray.

Right had side of this pic, closest bulb to the bottom of the pic - you can see the lead attached to the bulb holder.

There's a notch on the right edge of the column you put the clip over and then you put the screw through it. Loosen the screw and you can move it one way or the other to adjust it

No, it’s not the fiber optic in the ash tray connected to the gauge cluster. There is a small led like light on the end of what looks like two wires on the left side under the steering wheel. While I’ve been putting the blazer back together, I wasn’t the one who took it apart so just making sure everything is done right. Thanks for all the info!

I'd agree w/ @yevgenievich , then - probably an aftermarket alarm led or something along those lines.

Thanks for all the help. As far as the gear shift indicator I just clipped it on the the plastic sleeve that rotates on the steering column as you shift. I don’t see any screw to attach it too. It seems to be holding and working correctly as I shift.

There is no screw on the column part. I think he might have been referring to where it mounts on the cluster.

There is a screw on the older ones - not sure when the clip changed - perhaps in 83 ( I think) when the wiper switch on the column appeared.
