Power steering sensor/sender?

Whats the deal with this? One wire grounded to frame, the other wire runs up to a plug that hooked into a little black thing that also had a couple vacuum lines run to it.. truck is a 1986 k1500, 4.3 v6 and an sm465.

First old gm I've had that has any of this.. of course my sample size is only 2 vehicles lol.

That is a pressure switch for the engine idle. With the lean running, low idling engines, when turning the steering wheel hard while parking, the engine would stall. The fix was to bump the engine idle up when full pressure was needed. This was more common on the small engine cars.

Note: On some vehicles this switch would cut off the AC if it was on, same effect raises the idle.
